I've worked very hard for what I have earned in life. I seek value and quality for my money. I am as comfortable in a modest, $15/night hotel as I am in $300/night hotel, so long as they provide the expected level of comfort and services expected for the price asked. The same goes for restaurants, where I expect a high level of service, regardless of price and pay more or less for the quality and types of foods served.
If a hotel or restaurant is really bad, it gets one star. If it's really, really good, it gets five stars. Price considered, there are very few five star hotels or restaurants in the world, and there are many, many more one, two, and three star establishments.
In my opinion, most reviews on Tripadvisor have at least one more star than they deserve. If I rate an establishment or venue with one star, it is really, really bad. If it gets five stars, it is really, really good (for the price paid).
