Located in a cul de sac of the Tulbagh valley…perched on a hilltop surrounded by fruit orchards… and guarded by the towering Klein Winterhoek peak… Ta daaaaaam!
Fisaasbos – its name derived from ‘Fisante Bos’ meaning Pheasant’s Bush (trivia) – is located on Remhoogte, a working fruit farm in the cul de sac of the Tulbagh valley. The harvest: apples, pears, cling peaches and prunes. Lots of prunes.
The recently renovated thatched cottage, perched on the hilltop overlooking the valley and guarded by the peaks of the Winterhoek, has served as secondary house and bachelor’s cottage to the main farm since the 1940s. A second bathroom serves the rest. All linen and towels provided.
Don Quixote’s kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering purposes, with dishwasher, stove, microwave, fridge, coffee machine and the rest. The living room opens up to the front stoep, with views stretching across the valley, all the way to town and beyond.
A backyard braai is set in the shade of some giant acorn trees and with a view up the mountain slopes, cliffs and kloofs. And then there’s a sprawling lawn with pecan trees. BYO hammock.
Barbecue grid, utensils and wood are provided, for both the braai and indoor fireplace.
Pets are allowed but should be kept from wandering off. Good cell phone reception. Even better when ignored.
The name amused us when we did a lateral translation, the photos attracted us as we wanted to just chill on our 'epic' SA Lockdown tour. Jannie although we never met him as he I believe was having a break as well, organised everything via phone. On arrival we found this old immaculate homestead nestled into the Tulbagh range of mountains. The views from the front verandah were nothing but majestic! Fisaasbos is like a beautiful mature woman, built for comfort and not for speed. Yes the furnishings have 60's feel to them but that didn't detract from the ambiance at all. We had everything we needed. My wife had her wifi so she could work away from the office. Our granddaughter absolutely adored the visiting hounds and the swinging chair near the braai area. To say the least our stay was absolute bliss. My only regret was that I never filled in the visitors book with my thanks.
