The Rancho is located at the edge of the famous Carara National Park overlooking the lush forests that Costa Rica has to offer and the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. We are located approximately one hour from the Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose and 30 minutes from Jaco Beach.
The accommodation offers the perfect combination of secluded natural beauty and contemporary domestic comforts. There is comfortable lodging for up to 4 people offering breathtaking views as you enjoy your breakfast on the patio or take a dip in the private pool.

einfach nur super
Nach einer sehr guten Routenbeschreibung der Gastgeberin Claudine kamen wir vormittags an der Unterkunft an. Die Gastgeber (Luxemburgerin und Franzose) haben ihr Haus in einer Traumlage (mit Blick ins Tal) gebaut. Zur vermieten Unterkunft gelangt man über 70 Treppenstufen. Man ist somit für sich ganz allein und hat den Pool direkt vor der Nase. Claudine bereitet jeden Morgen ein leckeres Frühstück mit Crepes, frischem Obst, Brot, Marmelade etc. und auch ansonsten steht sie mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Wenn man will, hat man die Möglichkeit in einer kleinen Außenküche zu kochen, was wir jedoch nicht genutzt haben, da es in der näheren Umgebung einige Sodas (Lokale der Einheimischen mit typischer Costa-Rica Küche) gibt, wo man relativ günstig und sehr lecker speisen kann.

A little bit of paradise.
We stayed in the larger guest house at Rancho Capulin and had a wonderful time. Claudine and her family could not have been nicer. She arranged for tickets on Jose's Crocodile/Mangrove tour which was great. The accommodations were perfect. The pool was wonderful and the location was lovely. Birding around the property in the morning was great. We also went to Carara National Park which is just a few minutes away and saw a number of scarlet macaws (although from a distance). I would not call Tarcoles a birding 'hot spot' but the area and the Rancho are perfect for a laid back vacation on the Pacific coast.
Excellent birding might be possible with a little pre-planning. We just wanted a chance to see the Pacific before going to more famous birding locations.
Oh yes, the breakfast was also excellent.

correspond au descriptif
après une arrivee un peu compliquée(de notre faute car nous n'avions pas regarde le mail comportant le plan d’accès)bien le lire nous avons été accueillis chaleureusement par Claudine le Rancho est vraiment super le petit déjeuner excellent avec une vue super sur la mer et le fleuve aux crocodiles!!!superbe également l envol des aras rouges!!Dommmage car nous ne sommes restes qu'une nuit car on peut tout à fait cuisiner laver son linge ect!!

Magnifique!
B&B tenu par Claudine, très à l'écoute de vos demandes de renseignements ou de conseils, nous avons adorés sa chambre terraza avec jaccuzi , la chambre et grande, propre et le petit plus est le frigo ,ses confitures au petit déjeuné sont extra ainsi que les fruits frais et ses petites crépes ( merci encore Claudine 😜)

It would be perfect if the bedroom was had air conditioning. A very pleasant place and a beautiful view.

A lovely place to stay
This lovely B & B sits on top of a hill overlooking the Pacific Coast and Carara National Park. We were expecting to see many birds but not many appeared while we were there. If Claudine put out a bird feeder I'm sure they would come in their 100's as happened in previous places we stayed. We had the air conditioned room with the small plunge pool out the front and there was a large swimming pool in the garden at the bottom of the hill which was very much appreciated at the end of a hot day. Claudine's breakfast was European style and delicious - a nice change from the usual Costa Rican breakfasts.

How to get there
9.820329,-84.586408 Coming from San José (highway 27), El Arenal, Liberia or Puntarenas: follow direction Tarcoles, Jaco.
On road 34 after 4km, there is a big gas station on your left, 3km further you see a green sign ALTO CAPULIN 1km on your right slow down and then on the left there is Mini Super ARA MACAO, turn left at REST. LA VASIJAS.
If you missed restaurant la Vasijas and arrive at the Tarcoles Bridge you have to turn back and follow the following instructions as coming from south.
If you are coming from south, 3-4km after Crocodile Bridge, there is a sign Bajo Capulin, turn right just before the Restaurante LA VASIJAS.
Once you are on the dirt road, drive on the small road untill it splits then drive your right hand 400m.
