Samaná is one of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic and is located in the northeast of the country, completely occupying the Samaná Peninsula. Its capital is the city of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, usually called only Samaná. The Atlantic Ocean borders the peninsula and the province to the north and east. It limits to the south with the bay of Samaná and the province Monte Plata in the southwest and to the west by the provinces Duarte and María Trinidad Sánchez.
