Its central church, is dedicated to St. Demetrius and the Annunciation, with a bell tower that reaches 42 meters in height and every year on March 25 in Faraklata organises a great festival in honour of the feast. Walking around the small streets of the village one will still see the old windmill, and the home of Rumanian author Panait Istrati's father. You can also visit the village's unique museum of electricity, as Faraklata was one of the early settlements of Greece equipped with an electricity network, in the early 20th century. Kefallonia is easily reached by plane, boat or car. The airport is situated in the Southeast of the island, around 25min. by car from Faraklata. Two picturesque ports connect Kefallonia to the Peloponnese. Once a day a ferry departs from Patras to Sami , a small village in the south east of Kefallonia, the closest to Faraklata (around 30 min. by car). Several ferries also depart from Killini, a town southern of Patras with the destination of Poros (a small fishery village in the north east of Kefallonia), around 45 min. by car to Faraklata.
