About the neighbourhood
The Ardnamurchan peninsula is a haven for wildlife: Golden eagles, buzzards, otters and seals can all be sighted along the seashore. There is direct access to the seashore from the campsite. With no major roads and many paths the area is a joy for cyclists and walkers. Attractions beyond the village include the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, Nadurra Visitor Centre, Ardnamurchan Distillery and ferry trips to The Isle of Mull. The brave may like to swim in the sheltered bays especially the famous Sanna Beach on the North of the peninsula where the views towards Rhum, Eigg and the Cuillins of Skye are spectacular.
Getting around
Once at the campsite you can leave your car if you wish and walk or cycle around the area. Sanna Beach and the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse are 8-10km away. The ferry terminal at KIlchoan and the village hotel/pub are 2km away along the shore road. The village shop is a pleasant 1km walk and is open 9 -5pm 6 days a week. It is closed for lunch 1-2pm and on Sundays.
Car not needed
How to get there
Airport: Inverness: 144.0 km
Railway: Fort William: 85.0 km
Ferry: Kilchoan: 2.0 km
You can arrive by car, bicycle or on foot. There is limited public transport on the roads (one bus a day each way to Fort William) but there is a frequent car ferry service from Tobermory to KIlchoan in the summer. Access by road is via the B8007 from Salen. There are two routes to Salen: one via the Corran Ferry off the A82 near Fort William (no bookings needed) and the other coming down from the A830 Mallaig to Fort William road, turning off at Lochaillort on to the A861 to Acharacle and Salen. When arriving in the village of KIlchoan, go past the village shop 'The Ferry Stores' and turn right into Ormsaigbeg, signed to 'The Ardnamurchan Campsite'. The Campsite will be found, after 1km, on the left.
