What makes this apartment special is its breathtaking panoramic view: from the Val di Chio to the enchanting Castello di Montecchio, the beautiful Val di Chiana, as well as the distinctive, winding alleys of Castiglion Fiorentino and its charming medieval main square. This apartment has a large terrace perched up above of the city centre which overlooks the magnificent Vasari loggia. It offers a unique view of the Val di Chio, and its high walls and position guarantee privacy and tranquillity. As you enter, a private stone staircase leads to the top of the building. The staircase, like as most of the apartment’s furniture, is antique and one-of-a-kind. It offers a unique view of the Val di Chio, and its high walls and position guarantee privacy and tranquillity. As you enter, a private stone staircase leads to the top of the building. The staircase, like as most of the apartment’s furniture, is antique and one-of-a-kind. The apartment is on two levels: on the first level is the large living room with a stone fireplace and an authentic antique terracotta floor. From this room you can see the view from the panoramic terrace. Adjacent to the living room is a bedroom with double bed that looks out over the beautiful Piazza del Commune. It is very cosy, finely furnished, and has a parquet floor. Also adjacent is a large, modern bathroom, which has both a bathtub and shower. On this level there is also single room with a single bed. This room offers a unrivalled view over an old alley which leads to one of the 3 medieval city gates. In the evening you can watch a wonderful sunset in the peace and tranquility of a medieval village that has changed very little over time. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, dishwasher and washing machine and is also adjacent to the living room. A craftsman wood staircase leads to the mansard on the top floor. This romantic space is quite unique. It consists of a large and beautiful bedroom with queen-sized bed. This room overlooks the old rooftiles and has two wall closets and a part of a large attic, which can be used as storage space. On this floor there is also a small bathroom with shower nestled among the ancient beams. The view from the mansard overlooks the charming Collegiata church, all of the Val di Chio, the imposing Sant'Egidio mountain, and the Val di Chiana all the way up until you see the Amiata mountain on the horizon. About the neighbourhood
Perched at 500 metres above sea level, Cortona dominates the entire Valdichiana, with a view that stretches as far as Monte Amiata. The town is entirely surrounded by fortifications, that constitute an interesting archaeological element as well as one of its most beautiful aspects. Most of the buildings and streets within the city date from Medieval times - the Basilica of Santa Margherita and the Celle Franciscan sanctuary placed above the city make it natural for any tourist to conduct their visit ‘downwards’ into Cortona.Towards Foiano della Chiana stands the abbey of Santa Maria a Farneta, one of the oldest examples of Romanesque architecture.
How to get there
Montepulciano is the most important town in the valley, and the ancient 16th century fortifications designed by Antonio da Sangallo il Vecchio are still standing. Its narrow medieval streets and alleys lead up to the highest point of the town, Piazza Grande, which is an excellent example of Renaissance urban design. The historic part of Chianciano is located on a hill and thanks to the fact that the large, modern, thermal bath complexes have been built elsewhere, it has managed to preserve intact its original medieval appearance. Outside the ancient city walls there is the modern and functional town of Chianciano Terme, which plays host to more than a million visitors a year.
