Le Tilleul is a 150 year old farm cottage, retaining many original features including a large stone fireplace with wood-burner and exposed oak timbers in every room. The attractive three bedroom property on the Dordogne/Charente border enjoys a south facing aspect with panoramic views over beautiful rolling countryside. It is one of six holiday cottages sharing large grounds, swimming pool and tennis court. The pretty village of Vanxains is a short walk away with a boulangerie, bar, shop and post office.

All the facilities we needed were to hand - very well maintained swimming pool and tennis court and private areas to relax. We also enjoyed some lovely walks to nearby cafes and restaurants. Perfect location to enjoy peace and tranquillity or the hustle and bustle...More

We flew into Bordeaux and hired a car to travel onward to the Villa. Unfortunately we didn't appreciate that it was a Public Holiday and all the supermarkets were closed, luckily we found a patisserie open...so we would advice you to check before departing. The...More

This attractive property is cleverly designed on three levels. The ground floor includes a comfortable sitting room with stone fireplace and wood-burning stove, dining area and well-equipped kitchen with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave oven.


The lower level has been converted from the original cellar and includes a large double bedroom - cosy in winter and delightfully cool in summer - and a spacious bathroom. Glazed doors lead from the bedroom onto a sheltered patio - ideal for for a late night drink or a morning cup of tea. On this level, there is also a small utility area with automatic washing machine.

Upstairs are two further good-sized bedrooms, one double and one twin, together with a shower room with washbasin and WC.

Additional Rate and Availability Information
A deposit of £250 per week secures the booking. The balance payment plus a refundable security deposit of £300 is paid six weeks before the start of the rental period. The security deposit is refunded after the rental period provided the house is left in good order. Reservations made within six weeks of the start of the rental period require full payment at the time of booking.

There is a discount of £50 on the total rental cost for bookings of two weeks or more.

Payment is by direct transfer or cheque. Euros also accepted.

Changeover day is Saturday and minimal rental period is one week.

About the neighbourhood
The cottage is located in the rural hamlet of Champagnac, sitting in an elevated position with lovely views of the surrounding farmland and distant forest. The old village of Vanxains, with its boulangerie, bar/shop and post office nestles in the valley below and is only a short bike ride or pleasant walk away.

The bustling market town of Riberac is just 8 kms away. It has all manner of shops, hypermarkets, great cafes and restaurants and other facilities such as bike and canoe hire. The famous Friday market at Riberac is one of the largest in the region and provides a great opportunity to check out the local specialities. The town hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year and has a lovely cinema.

Ferry: St Malo: 520.0 km
The distance from the Channel Tunnel at Calais is about 760 km (7-8 hours drive using the route Calais-Rouen-Le Mans-Poitiers- Angouleme-Riberac).
There are various options for Channel ferry crossings, including Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to the nearest ports at Caen or St Malo, which are about 520 km away or 6-7 hours drive.

Ryanair and Flybe have regular budget flights from several UK locations to the nearest airport at Bergerac, which is less than an hour away. Bordeaux airport is only about 1.5 hours drive and is serviced from the UK by several operators, including Easyjet and Flybe. Ryanair also fly to Limoges airport, which is less than 2 hours away.
Car hire at competitive rates is available from a number of international and local rental companies at all three airports.
