Nyumba ya Madau - the house of the canoes - is a unique beach house on the Indian Ocean entirely decorated in local swahili style with five double bedrooms, en-suited. It is located on a white sandy beach of the most isolated and charming bays of Watamu, an exclusive location for a special holiday with family and friends.
Nyumba ya Madau can be rented daily/weekly/monthly and on a self-catering basis. Discounts apply for week period and there are special rates at time, so please contact us and we might send you a special quote.

Un paraíso
La casa está decorada con un gusto exquisito!!! El servicio al mando de Cornelius, no podían ser más amables!! La playa en frente. Tranquilidad y planes por los alrededores. No pudimos estar mejor!! Enhorabuena a Benedetta, una anfitriona magnífica!!

My favorite home in Kenyan coast- My paradise
I have been going to Nyumba Ya Madau since 2011. I lived in Kenya for many years then moved away a few years ago. In the beginning I stayed in many different houses but when I came upon this one, I never went to another one again. When I go back these days, I always stay at Nyumba Ya Madau. It is truly the most unique home. It is beautiful and the beach in front of it is just UNREAL. The porch is beautiful with comfortable beds and couches to read all day in the view of the ocean. It is so nice to be in such a non-touristy and quiet part of the beach. You can walk around and you don't see many people, and you are not getting sold things all the time. However, the house is also super close to resorts (only 15 minute drive) if you want to go out for a drink/dinner. Most of all, I LOVE the house staff. Gabriel the chef has been with the family for decades and cooks AMAZING Italian food. The seafood is so fresh and out of this world. Bene the owner is also an awesome person and always responsive and accommodating. I will be going back for many years to come.

Home away from home, breathtaking.
This is a beautiful place, relaxing and serene. My friends and I had the most beautiful stay. The staff was great and took good care of us. We would definitely go back for another visit.

Beautiful is an understatement for this house...it is a piece of paradise.
The location is perfect - the beach is actually your garden. The strech of beach in front of the house is a paradise...huge white sand, next to a sand bank where the beach is fantastic. always emply beach..you feel like you have the beach all to yourself. But on a very quick walk you have a few restaurants, one of them - Safina - serves the best seafood grill right on the beach...we kept coming back.
The house is a delight. Super comfortable and full of nice corners where you can rest and wind down. You can eat at a different table everyday, read a book at a different corner everytime. The furniture in this house is something...picked from different corners in the world,,,they all have a different story.
The beds are super comfortable, all white. If you are lucky, you will even find pure old italian linen bedsheets and bathroom towels.
The staff is super attentive and Gabriel is an excellent cook. You can eat from the sea everyday - sea urchins, vongole, octopus, fried seaweed - they get it straight from the sea in front of the house. But Gabriel can also order excellent fish, prawns, lobsters, crab, oysters...

A paradise on earth!!
Wonderfull location (right in front of the beach), stunning architecture and decoration... definitly the place to relax and be happy..
5 Stars staff who made us feel at home!

Great place to be with kids
This is one of many trips we've had to this gorgeous house. This time with a small child. The staff made it easy to be there, taking care of the child's nutritional needs and dealing with extra laundry on time.
I'd definitely go back with a little one and look forward to many more trips to this place.

Breathtakingly beautiful house on a stunning beach
We spent 5 days in this amazing house as a family of four, and we'll be back as soon as we possibly can! This extraordinary 5-bedroomed Swahili beach house is on the beachfront - life overlooks the white sands and turquoise waters of Jacaranda beach, just 10kms from Watamu.
Bene's house has been designed and filled with love for Swahili design and culture - four-poster beds are combined with antique Swahili artefacts built up over years, and mixed with shells and other finds from the beach. Every need and comfort has been considered, from a massage bed on the veranda overlooking the beach, to outdoor showers in courtyards, and in-door as well as outdoor dining areas. A great shared pool is available just behind the house.
The staff are lovely, and can help you decide on the best seafood and fish, which they can then turn into delicious Swahili or Italian meals. They will also help with organising dhow trips to see dolphins, snorkelling on the reef or searching for starfish in the rock pools along the beach. We did it all... and will be back again for more!

Gem in watamu
An amazing gem in watamu..nyumbayamadau is everything you imagine it to be and more. Excellent stay with girlfriends, the staff is absolutely amazing and nothing is too much to ask for. Service with a smile. Most serene place I have been to in a long time and the house itself is a work of art! Well done to the Bene and the team! Will definitely be back!

Serene,luxury and exceptionally worth visiting!!!!!!
Nyumba ya madau is one of the most beautiful houses i have visited in a decade,it is located in an amazing and unique location, the beach is literally in front of the house,breathtaking sights,and such a calming presence,i felt it immediately when i entered the house.
It is a great family friendly,cosy, and relaxing environment with a stunning pool inside the compound,and a fantastic and super friendly staff, the food is of high standards and the rooms are very clean. I have to say what impressed me the most is the stylistic design of the house,and how spacious and accommodating it was.
I had a marvelous experience and recommend it is exceptionally worth it!the pictures do not do any justice, you have to see it to believe it!

About the neighbourhood
There are few hotels on the right side, but outsiders have no access to them. We recommend to turn left as you exit the beach gate, for long walks on the beach.
The bay receives lot of tourists around November-February every year, mostly Italians and Kenyans. The bay is nevertheless quite private and wild.

The house is located in the northern side of Watamu, next to Jacaranda and Twiga resorts. It is 20 mins away from Malindi airport and 10 mins away from Watamu town, by car. It is around 2h away from Mombasa airport.
An airport transfer can be arranged for you as needed.
