PurePods are designed to ensure that you experience nature's show vividly, utilising all of your senses whilst remaining sheltered in luxury. The effect is incredible. The stress of life disappears, the wonder at nature’s power and subtlety reconnects us with ourselves – and our partners. What is the experience like? On a hot day you can pull back the sliding doors on all three glassed sides, turn up the shade on the ceiling blinds and indulge the privacy. If its cold you are totally insulated, the heating system is keeping you warm but you can see the rain or snow falling all around you, experience the sounds and marvel at nature. Environmentally friendly To build the worlds most environmentally transparent building takes more than simply using glass for roofing and walls. It involves using sustainable energy wherever possible, minimising the use of non-renewable energy sources, using local water and returning the water to the local area just as clean as it came to us. Rainwater that falls on the roof is returned to water the local plants. Waste is cleaned as naturally as possible, organic cleaners are used exclusively. We’re passionate about sharing the best possible experience of Pure New Zealand possible and we’re passionate about keeping New Zealand pure.More

We two 70+ travellers were thrilled with the excellent decision made to spend our penultimate night in NZ experiencing a new way of seeing, a new way of being immersed in the landscape at Waipara. This Purepod experience was both a fantastic way to conclude our Sth Island roadtrip and a sensory wakeup call to the joys of savouring off-road, off-grid, (electronically) disconnected travel. We had called in to Hanmer Springs on the way to our Pod & immediately understood the difference - if what you are seeking is a unique, calming & meditative experience then take a break from the usual tourist track and submerge yourself in the isolation & beauty offered by this Purepod. Just an hour and a world away from Christchurch.

We stayed a Sunday night at the Greystone Purepod set in the hills above the Greystone Winery. We picked the Hamper Option. It is an amazing stay. The pod was warm and you can see all around the rolling hills and down to the main road in the distance. The pod itself is modern, and very comfortable. This is no a cheap stay but it is worth every cent. The prepared meal was delicious and all I had to do was basically cook the steak - choice of gas hob or barbecue and enjoy. To sit looking out at the stars and the lights across the shallow valley with no one around but some nosey sheep. It was a magical night. Waking up in the morning with the sun across the top of the pod and spreading down from the hills. It was a stay to remember. We are keen to try some of the other pods in the area. On a practical note - The pod was immaculate; all the utensils, glasses etc are all new and ready for use. The bed was very comfortable and strategically placed for the views. Recommend bring your dressing gown ( light one in summer and warm one in winter). Oh and no plugs; only a USB port. But really you don’t need much - there are birds, sheep and its a great place to relax and unwind.

We stayed on our South Island road trip as a treat, and the sense of anticipation built while walking in the access track. Rounding the corner to see the view and the pod was just delightful: all this was ours for the day! Everything was provided and well thought out, and the tech marvel of the pod itself kept my engineering brain challenged for the stay while enjoying the wine from the vineyard surrounding us.

We arrived at the Pod carpark on a drizzly, overcast afternoon. The track to the Pod traverses one side of a steep gully and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with hip or knee problems. The stair risers are far to tall and the track is poorly maintained. As the afternoon wore on the rain got worse and the sky never cleared so we didn't see a single star in the night sky. Unfortunately much of the Pod's charm is dependent on good weather and no-one can guarantee that. We were asked to remove our shoes in the Pod because the floor is glass and becomes slippery when wet. At night the floor became unpleasantly cold on bare feet but slippers were not provided. We ordered the dinner package which adds $149 to the $590 per diem rental. The appetizer, main and desert were all very tasty. However the centerpiece of the main was cook your own gurnard which you can order with your fish and chips where we live. I'd have expected salmon or venison at this price. Breakfast was a tiny jar of muesli and some yoghurt. The bed was comfortable and the Pod is an engineering marvel but high prices create high expectations and ours certainly weren't met. There are plenty of B&Bs in this area with equally good views for less than half the price. Perhaps this Pod is worth it if you're lucky enough to have good weather and clear skies but for those of us who have grown up in NZ it turns out to be an expensive treat at best.

My husband and I stayed here in April/May and enjoyed every second. The whole experience was flawless and easy to navigate. Spending the afternoon with some music on overlooking winery was just what I needed. In the crazy hustle of life, sometimes you need solitude, quiet, a chance to bring in those thoughts about how life great is and this experience did just that. There are no words to describe what its like at night star gazing from bed, the sky was littered with stars, it's incredible. We also ordered the food package, for us personally we could of done without, as you can't pick your own food so I felt like we wasted it due to it not suiting what we like. With a stove top and a BBQ, its easy enough to bring your own food. I highly recommend this experience and had been looking forward to it for quite some time.

Thanks Kate & Kyle! So glad to hear you completely indulged in the peace and solitude. The vineyard looks so amazing with the autumn hues of the leaves. Appreciate the feedback on the food package too - it's difficult to offer a wide range when we are only catering for 1 PurePod but we can take any dietary requirements into consideration. Thanks for the recommendation!

This place...whoa. Honestly, it was unlike anywhere I have ever been, and I say that in the best possible way. Somewhere between the yard full of sheep, the delicious dinner, and sitting in bed with a glass of wine and looking at the stars peeking through the ceiling of the pod, I realized that this was one of those experiences I will always remember. Book a PurePod, book this PurePod, and you will not be disappointed. My wife and I drove around NZ in a camper and ended in the pod as an extra treat to ourselves, and it was everything we could have asked for and more. Ruth was so fantastic in helping to book everything and make our stay there special. The food was curated and absolutely delicious, the winery tour was one of the best I have ever done, and the scenery is gorgeous. Just a great experience!

I booked this accommodation to experience something a little different and was not disappointed with my choice - it was stunning! With amazing views in every direction for your to see the ever changing light, including the glass roof to see the night sky. There were screens for privacy in the bathroom facilities if you felt you needed it but you really are remote enough not to feel that people can see you. A great spot to really unwind. We arrived at about 3pm to grab some wine from the cellar door before heading up to the pod. We chose to self cater but depending on how long your stay is it could be a bit of hard work getting your supplies to the pod. In hind-sight I probably would have chosen the food to be supplied beforehand just one less thing to carry up there. Only negative is that it did get a bit warm in the early afternoon, so we chose to explore the region at this time of day and come back up later in the afternoon. There were shady spots though if you didn't want to leave. Highly recommend this experience and the Greystone Pure Pod team. We thoroughly enjoyed this gorgeous accommodation!

Thanks for taking the time to send through your comments Renea, much appreciated! We are so happy you thoroughly enjoyed your PurePod experience. It sounds like you were treated to a beautifully hot summer's day, perfect for relaxing on the deck under the sun shades, sipping on your favourite wine.

I was travelling solo around NZ for 5 weeks and planned this stay right around the middle because I figured that I'd need a rest. It definitely provided me with the rest that I needed but I had no idea the effect it would really have on me. When I got there, following easy directions from the owner, there at the beginning of the trail to greet me were 3 curious sheep. They walked the trail a ways before me almost all the way to the purepod, almost like guides. The views on the way were spectacular. Tip: don't carry too much because the hike isn't for the faint of heart! It was very hot in the pod when I got there but once I opened up all the sliding doors, it cooled down in minutes. Once I got settled, I sat there with the provided cheeseboard (delicious!) and took stock of my situation. I drank it in. All I could hear were insects, the wind, birds and sheep in the distance. I don't know the last time that I felt that kind of peace. I honestly did nothing but take pictures, be present, enjoy good food and watch the landscape and light change as the day wound down to night. And then I got to watch the stars. Wow. This was my favourite place to stay in all of NZ and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you for this beautiful place.

Our experience in booking the Pure Pod and communication from the beginning was absolutely outstanding. Quick, efficient, friendly (We have actually found that throughout NZ - Go NZ tourism!). We were contacted throughout the day about the weather, so new what to expect and given special directions to allow us to get closer to the pod to avoid the wind and rain! When we arrived, that's when the WOW factor really set in!! Wow! It was like this beautiful glass tent in the middle of nowhere tucked up on the hill overlooking the beautiful Greystone Vineyard and Valley! We immediately indulged in the delicious Greystone wine which we had pre arranged to be delivered for us and of course the dinner package (which is a must). Such a luxurious, fun and quirky style of "glamping" I suppose! It felt so surreal to be able to walk around and see out in all directions - My favourite was the shower!! Highly recommend the Winery Tour which can follow the next day - Jess our guide was absolutely gorgeous and super informative! We had fun with her. The late check out is such a nice luxury and allows you to fully submerge into 'relaxation' particularly if only staying for one night. Poor weather didn't alter a thing for us during this experience, but could certainly see the benefits of the outdoors in the nice sunshine too! We enjoyed being warm and cosy and looking up to see the stars. Will be recommending to all of our friends and hope to visit many more throughout NZ. I've asked my husband if we can visit them all!! :-)

We were so looking forward to this unusual innovative experience. We were not disappointed. The instruction to locate and walk into the property were clear- and yes you need to walk in in daylight. The pod was classy, interesting and just lovely. We had hoped to be 100% away form civilisation so being able to see the cars on the roads in Waipera in the landscape was a surprise. We called into the winery beforehand so we also enjoyed the lovely organic wine, with our dinner pack. Yes, we loved it and appreciated the extra late checkout time.

It's quite a unique location high above the winery. It's always a bit of a juggling act maximising the best view while maintaining 100% seclusion but we think we got the balance about right for that location. Really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and the lovely wine of course!

About the neighbourhood
With the Teviotdale Hills behind and views up the Waipara Valley across to the Southern Alps, the Greystone PurePod provides a beautiful setting. The Waipara region is one of New Zealand’s premier wine growing regions. It is full of stunning scenery, award-winning wineries, scenic walkways and a number of great food producers, including world-class black truffles, and olives. There is even a 25km scenic railway using historic steam and diesel locomotives as well as an outdoor art gallery located in a disused quarry. Whether you want to spend a couple of days relaxing at the PurePod itself, or venture out to the nearby walking & cycle trails, or explore the local wineries there is bound to be more than enough to keep you occupied.
Getting around
Take advantage of the nearby Waipara Valley Vineyard Trail, designed for walkers, cyclists and joggers. The trail passes through world class vineyards and historic farms.
