Interaction with guests
Keys to the cottage are kept in a key safe by the door. My cleaner lives locally should there be any problems. I shall provide an Information Brochure approximately four weeks prior to your stay. This should tell you everything you need to know about the cottage and the surrounding area. Well behaved dogs are welcome with the proviso that they have been flea treated just prior to your stay.

About the neighbourhood
Symonds Yat has a long history as a tourist spot, visited by Wordsworth and many of his contemporaries. The RSPB involvement with the local nesting Peregrine falcons has put it once more in the spotlight. The west bank (where Wyewood Cottage is located) is the quiet area, though there are several good pubs in the village. The hand-pulled ferry gives you easy access to the eastern bank of the river and the pubs on offer there.

The river offers quiet river cruises or more energetic canoeing expeditions, besides angling opportunities. Or, you can sit in the gardens and watch the river flow by.

Come in the spring to see the thousands of snowdrops by the river, a little later to enjoy the wild garlic. The Forest of Dean is nearby.
Getting around
To access the Forest of Dean - head towards Ross on Wye and then take the turning for Symonds Yat East. Do not take the next turning for Symonds Yat. Puzzlewood (used to film Dr Who and Star Wars) is just beyond Coleford. The Cycle track Centre is signposted from Welsh Bicknor. For the Black Mountains, take the A40 towrds Monmouth, follow the signs for Abergavenny and then Hereford; turn left at Llanfihangel Crucorney. For the Golden Valley, turn left at Woods of Whitchurch and follow signposts dependent on which villages you wish to visit.
Car recommended
How to get there
From London - Exit M4 J15. Follow road to Gloucester and then signs (A40) to Ross on Wye and continue until you see turning for Symond Yat West.

From the North - M5 - M50 - A40

Alternatively, if you wish to drive up the Wye valley, follow signs for Chepstow and Tintern. Turn right at Monmouth and follow signs for Symonds Yat West.

Continue down the lane, past The Paddocks bear right uphill until the lane starts to go downhill again, near the bottom of the hill, you will see the sign on the right for Wye Rapids. It is always a little further down the lane than you expect!
