About the neighbourhood
Conca dei Marini was founded by the ancient Romans, around the year 500 BC, like many of the other towns on the Amalfi Coast. Conca's Latin name means 'Basin of the Seas', this is surely because of the way its coastline contours along the Mediterranean sea, creating enchanting small fiords, and gulfs.
Conca dei Marini is also famous for its 'Grotta dello Smeraldo' (Emerald Grotto) renowned all over the world for its amazing emerald-green waters, and its under sea 'Presepe' (the scene of the birth of Christ). The Grotto is reachable by both land, and ferry. Once you reach the Grotto, you are taken on a guided boat tour of the interior cave.
