Fabulous stay at Maison Fleurie!
We visited Maison Fleurie as an extended family group of 12 and the accommodation was well arranged to accommodate everyone comfortably. The pool area has been upgraded since the trip advisor pictures were taken and we were delighted when we arrived as this is a lovely space with very comfortable loungers and furniture. The house is in an absolutely perfect location to walk up the hill to Aubeterre square where there are several restaurants, and also a short walk to the river beach for swimming and kayaking which the children enjoyed greatly. La Taverne restaurant is a stones throw from the house (literally!) and the food and welcome was so good we eaten there twice during our weeks stay. A fabulous holiday had by all!

Perfect House & Pool ...
Just returned from a fantastic week at Jon and Suzanne's lovely house. The position couldn't be bettered - completely private, loads of outdoor space and a few minutes walk from gorgeous Aubeterre with its cafes, shops and square, a handy general store and the river beach. We used our car just twice! The pool was wonderful - huge and so warm with daytime temperatures of 28C to 30C. We covered it each night to retain the heat. Lots of pool furniture, parasols and inflatables, which the children loved. The house is fully equipped and spacious. A good information folder too. Highly recommended.

This is the ideal place for a fun family holiday with friends. We've had such a fantastic time - enjoing the pool and the beautiful surroundings...the house is perfect for a large group - plenty of space and well-equipped. An ideal combination of fun for kids and beautiful views to enjoy while sipping wine in the evenings...loved every minute of it! Thanks, Jon and Suzanne. We've made wonderful memories here...

Large accommodation
The house was a little dated in certain areas, but overall the accommodation was suitable for all of our needs. Loved the large pool the outside furniture downstairs could have been more comfortable because this is where we mostly sat during the day as we had two members of our party with limited mobility.

Many thanks for the feedback - I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and the pool, which is always a favourite feature. We have a list of rolling replacements and upgrades of furniture, so we’ll prioritise the downstairs furniture for next season. Best regards, Jon

Brilliant family home in a superb location
The location is amazing. The village of Aubeterre is truly beautiful and the people are very friendly and patient. (Especially with my poor French). The pool at the house is amazing and we had hours of fun around it and in it. The river Dronne is a very short walk from the house with its man made beach and safe swimming area, variety is the spice of life so treat yourself to a river swim you won't regret it. Oh! Not to mention the beach bar. We were in Aubeterre for our daughters wedding at the Eglise de St. Jean. The underground church in the village. We had a spectacular day and the village turned out in force to watch and applauld the happy couple. The whole holiday was enhanced by the quality of the property we were staying in. The barbeque and outside eating areas were great and we enjoyed them to the max. Jon and Suzanne (the owners) thanks guys for the use of your beautiful home. We'll visit again!

Relaxing peaceful friendly retreat in a beautiful area.
Easy to find property, well appointed family home from home. Our French friends joined us from the south of France and enjoyed a relaxing stay with a lovely pool, comfortable property, clean , peaceful garden with lovely outside area for eating and drinking. They found all the information left by the owners very useful for visiting the area. Very good local produce sold in the market held in the village, good local butchers bit expensive but very nice. A lovely area to keep coming back too.

Perfect for a houseparty
When arriving at this property, idyllicly located in this beautiful village, we did not realise the extent of the accomodation. Tardis- like in so many ways, our large family gathering had so much space both inside and outside the house. The very large pool soon became the focal point of our stay, with the substantial barbeque area poolside adding much to the atmosphere. We enjoyed being close to the village with all its amenities, including a couple of good restaurants. The landlord's agent saw that all our needs were met, including reparations needed after the previous booking. We cannot wait to return to this very special place

Great Stay - TOTALLY RUINED by unacceptable and unbelievable damage claims
A story of 2 halves.... Very important to state that our party of 12 young boys aged 10 - 16 and 2 adults had a fantastic time on our cycling holiday. The location was great and the house really suited us. Some confusion with the pool alarm that we were told was compulsory but had apparently been turned off by the owners but we all had a great stay. Our trouble seemed to start after one small accident where a small pane of glass got broken in a door. The door in question had no stopper but opened straight onto a radiator dial that was set at 90 degrees rather than set flat. We immediately contacted the owner to explain what had happened and fully expected to have to pay for this..... However, what followed was a series of phone calls and emails where claims against our damage deposit have gone from the ridiculous to the sublime. The matter has been passed to Trip Advisor to investigate so won't cover all the details but examples include 1 X sheet (£28) 2 x Towels (£36) 1 X Double duvet (£80) !!! We left this house thinking we had a great time and already planning to come back next year. However we are left with the VERY bitter taste of unfair and totally excessive damage claims that appear to be way of taking extra money from us. Perhaps this is why the visitors book showed so few visitors this year.... We have passed the matter to TA to investigate as we have no other way of trying to get our deposit money back. Will update, once they have concluded their investigation.

Dear Darren, I am very sad that you have felt the need to post this review. We have consistently good feedback from all previous guests (in fact most are return visitors), but we've never had to deal with the house left in such a state, with so much damage (ruined linen, broken table football table, urine-stained mattress, badly stained armchair, maggot infested bins). Nor have we ever had to retain any damage deposit in the three years that we've rented our family house - there are always little bits and pieces which get damaged, but this is part and parcel of having a lived-in home that we put down to standard wear-and-tear, rather than taking from a damage deposit. I hope you come back to the area, as you are right - it's wonderful for all things outdoors. However, our house is much more suited to families (such as ours) than it is to a large group of teenagers, especially given the quality of furnishings, linen etc. Kind regards, Jon & Suzanne

Superb accommodation in wonderful setting
We had a long weekend here with friends and thought the house was fantastic. The 12 metre pool was a treat, as the weather was really hot so it was great to cool off. The house has everything you could possible need for your comfort. The village itself is quiet, so we were not disturbed by traffic, and there were lots of interesting places to visit in the village and within an hour's drive. Thoroughly recommended!

About the neighbourhood
Situated on the border of Charente and Dordogne departments, Aubeterre sur Dronne has an exceptional heritage which, combined with its beautiful natural surroundings and a climate akin to the Cote d'azur, makes it the perfect place to visit. From the house, you will be in walking distance of 12 restaurants in and around the village - not bad going for only 450 residents! in addition, there are tennis courts within a 5 minute walk, as well as kayak hire for the river Dronne, and a man-made beach - perfect for a change of scene from the swimming pool in the garden.

How to get there
There are various ways of getting to Aubeterre, many of which depend on the season. Air - there are frequent flights from UK airports to both Bordeaux (1h15) and Bergerac (1h); you will find all the major car hire companies at both airports. Ferry - we tend to take the Portsmouth-Caen route; Aubeterre is only a 5 hour drive from Caen, ideal for taking the overnight crossing and getting to Aubeterre for a late lunch. From the chunnel & ferry ports of Calais it is a 7-hour drive (or so). Train - the new high-speed Paris-Bordeaux link is now operational, which has reduced the travel time from almost 4 hours to just over 2 (to travel 360 miles!). It takes the complete London-Bordeaux train journey to a shade under 6 hours, including the changeover in Paris. From Bordeaux you can either hire a car, organise a transfer (taxi numbers available on request), or take a train to Chalais, which is a 10-minute hop from Aubeterre.
