This extremely aptly named cool retreat is comfortable and elegantly furnished, and we were very well looked after all week by Kingsley and his team, who cooked excellent Sri Lankan dinners for us every night (and showed me how to make the delicious aubergine dish)....More

About the neighbourhood
We are situated in the small town of Ambalangoda in Galle province on the southern coast, approximately 2 hours from Colombo international airport. Ambalangoda is far less touristy than nearby Hikkaduwa but is now attracting investment. The Indian Ocean is a few metres from the front gate and the centre of Ambalangoda is a short walk away – worth a visit to soak up some authentic local colour and get a sense of the 'real' Sri Lanka! The town is famous for its colourful hand-carved 'devil' masks and puppets, which are still used in ceremonial dances that are intended to drive out evil spirits. Local visits include mask museums, turtle hatcheries, river boat tour, Galle (a UNESCO heritage site), tea plantations and much more.
