Seaside Zen Cottage
Located on the makai (ocean) side of Alii Drive, 2.5 miles from Kailua-Kona, this three bedroom, three bathroom cedar home was once a school teacher's house in Hilo. It was dismantled and reassembled at the beach in the 1930's.
In keeping with the Hawaiian spirit of Aloha, we invite you to experience the unhurried, old-style Hawai'i and to regard your time with us as you would a stay as a guest in our home. Picnic on the promontory and enjoy the evanescent beauty of the Kona Coast. Lie on one of our three beaches. Rest and relax alone or with friends and family. Just a few steps across the lawn is the sheltered lagoon that offers a safe playground for children (or adults!) to swim and snorkel and a peaceful place to float with the honu (the endangere...

Great location and house
This house exceeded our expectations. It is simple but has all the necessary amenities - including fans and windows that open on all side. Having the public beach right out the back door was great, every morning we would check the tidepools for turtles and eels, and snorkel in the afternoon. The house is central to Kona attractions and beaches, as well as being a reasonable drive away from Volcano Nat'l Park and the Waikaloa area.

Great location and house
This house exceeded our expectations. It is simple but has all the necessary amenities - including fans and windows that open on all side. Having the public beach right out the back door was great, every morning we would check the tidepools for turtles and eels, and snorkel in the afternoon. The house is central to Kona attractions and beaches, as well as being a reasonable drive away from Volcano Nat'l Park and the Waikaloa area.

Fabulous week at the Kona Beach House
The Kona Beach House was the perfect location for our family vacation. We rented both houses and could not have been happier with the houses, the location, and the hospitality from James (the caretaker). We were all very sad to leave. The houses were stocked with everything that you could ever need, were extremely comfortable and clean, and are located in an ideal spot. And Kona Beach House is very fortunate to have James as a caretaker. He is so nice and helpful! He provided so many great tips and advice on what to do on the island. And he really looks after the houses and makes you feel welcome. And he has the best dog (Mango) and the cutest little cat (Papaya). We are looking forward to coming back with our little girl one day. This is a great place for kids. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend the Kona Beach House!

Home Away From Home
What a great space! The home was so wonderful and open, the property was spacious and the beach was breathtaking. This was my 15th trip to the Islands and I must say, this was one of my families best trips overall. Their was a perfect room for everyone! I can't wait for our next trip back! Thank you for sharing your wonderful family home with ours.

A True Hawaiian Experience
Staying at the Zen cottage was an idyllic Hawaiian experience. The caretaker greeted us upon arrival and was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The setting could not be more beautiful or relaxing. It is the perfect spot, whether you want to explore the big Island or just kickback and enjoy the water with the friendly resident sea turtles.

Beautiful beach house
Great place, wonderful hosts. The house was perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults, two children 7 and 2). House backs onto a small public beach (but typically with only 2-3 people on it). House is small, but very well designed. Not luxury, but perfectly well appointed. Well stocked with stuff for kids - beach, hammock etc. Excellent location <1 miles from town. Very gracious manager, housekeeper etc. We would be happy to return.

A gorgeous setting for a relaxing vacation
We found this home online and were not disappointed. The setting was lovely, right on the beach with a quiet lagoon for the children, but past the lagoon were waves for the adults. Wild turtles swam with us and nearby tide pools offered eels to watch and feed. A friendly and accommodating caretaker was onsite to assist with any questions or problems (didn't have any). The price was a little steep but shared with other family members it was reasonable. Since we cooked our meals instead of eating out it was probably more affordable than hotel rooms. The location was just 2 miles out from the town of Kona so a car is probably necessary. When we visit the big island of Hawaii again we will rebook at this very lovely colonial home.

Lovely holiday
We were three friends meeting from various parts of the world, having never been to Hawaii before. Absolutely loved Hawaii but mainly because Kona Beach House was one of the most stunning places we have ever stayed in (and we have individually travelled extensively). Beautiful house, gardens and location, nine months later we still talk about how much we loved the place, and I mean, loved it!
p.s. only things, the beach out front could be used by anybody who knew it was there although hardly anybody did and, if you are staying for two weeks,cleaning is not carried out after a week and was an extra cost despite us paying for "two weeks cleaning" - owners promised to address this.

The extra cleaning fee was immediately refunded to this guest. We certainly regretted the miscommunication with the cleaning crew.
It should be noted that ALL beaches in Hawaii are accessible to the public by law.

We are about 10 miles from the airport in a residential neighborhood. Upon accepting an request for rental, we send our guests information about things to do in the area, more information about the house and a detailed map describing how to find us.
Renting a car is necessary. We are about 2.5 miles from the closest restaurants and shopping and the island offers much to see!
