We truly enjoyed hosting Sven and Jael. They were wonderful, considerate guests who were easy to communicate with before and during their visit. They travelled from Niagara Falls to Washington DC, and also covered a lot of ground in New York City. It was fun to watch them enjoying the new sites and the people who live in our city. We would welcome them both again in the future.

The owner is super fantastic. Kakuna will make sure you have everything you need and only half a block to the subway. Rooms are private and comfortable. I love this location. I feel like I live in the neighborhood. The area is very safe at night.

The studio was just as described. It was a perfect place in a quiet neighbourhood. The subway takes you downtown in 20 min. and there are plenty of shops nearby. The hosts are there to help you in every way they can. Lovely place , I felt home.

We stayed here for 5 nights and we're thrilled about the location - literally 1 minutes walk to 135th street train. Apartment was just as pictured - clean, tidy and very private. Great to have the convenience of a kitchen and also a washing machine. Apartment is fully self contained. The owner Kahuna is very friendly and helpful with any local information you may need. Why pay Mid town prices when you can stay in Harlem for half the price but be downtown quickly and cheaply any time day or night.

As a couple of retirees we weren't sure what to expect from our stay at this rental. It's the first time we've stayed in this type of accommodation and our friends in our retirement village were horrified that we were staying in Harlem. However, we refused to pay the exorbitant rates in New York itself and after a bit of searching we were impressed with the reviews on this property on Trip Advisor. Our correspondence with the owner, Kakuna, was great and she sent us heap of info after we made our booking. We had just completed a 3 week bus tour and during this time we stayed in some very upmarket hotels. This rental was not 5 star so don't expect that. It is, however, clean, well stocked with everything you need for your stay including eggs, juice, milk, butter and bread. It is super safe with deadlocks on 2 entry doors. But we should not have had any fear about the neighbourhood. It was in a quiet, genteel street. Kakuna says that all the neighbours in the block know each other and we had no problems walking around at night - even travelling on the subways. The subway is a couple of minutes walk from the rental and it will take you to anywhere in New York. It cost us US$32 for a weekly pass. Be careful if you buy the pass. Either have the right money or $40 max as the machine only gives max $9 change. Get yourself a city map, a trains map and a bus map if you can as soon as possible. We got ours in an info booth in Times Square. Also think twice about getting the City Saver pass. As seniors, we would have been better off doing our own thing. It's supposed to give you priority entry to attractions but we only found this to be true at the 9/11 museum. We weren't there at peak times so there were no queues to jump. See more by checking out other reviews. Best attraction for us was the 9/11 museum. Worst, the Guggenheim Museum. Half was closed and what was on display was weird. Helps to see doco on site before you see the exhibits. Will help you to understand why you are in a large, bare room, looking at old cupboards. They had some great old Masters tho. Back to the rental. Kakuna was there to greet us when we arrived and spent some time with us understanding what we wanted to see in the 4 days and making suggestions on how to achieve this. It felt like we were staying in a friend's basement with our own entrance. Be aware that the bed is a single with a trundle bed underneath. That was fine with us and we knew about this configuration.

I think the title says it all, everything is awesome! From the location (really quiet, safe, and half a block from the subway), the apartment (clean, cozy and with EVERYTHING you could ever need, Im not kidding here, you have razors, shampoo, moisturizer, first aid kit, umbrellas, hair dryer, soap for your clothes, EVERYTHING!), the owner (Kakuna is the best owner we have ever found in all our travels, she received us with milk, eggs, juices, bread, everything you need, she helped us in planning our days, receiving our packages, and giving us helpful tips from where to eat to where to buy). When we will return to NYC we will go back there without any doubts. Thanks for all Kakuna!
