Lovely home, not so lovely location
I was really excited about this house as it indicated it was walking distance to all the great dining and shopping in Asheville and was described as an "elegant downtown luxury rental." Unfortunately, only some of that was true. The home is lovely, very well equipped, and the owner is quite responsive and attentive. However, the home is in an area with a few houses that are vacant, boarded up, and/or should be. We went to the park up the street one morning with our family, and people were passed out on the benches. Even if if this great home was short walking distance from downtown, which it is really not - 20 minutes at best - this is not an area we felt comfortable walking around at night. We had to drive everywhere and parking is not easy downtown. So, while the home is nice, the neighborhood is definitely not elegant and it is not downtown. Really disappointing as the owner is so nice.

Asheville at it's best
This rental accommodation is first class in so many ways. It is a home for home with all modern comforts - from the exquisite bed linens to the heated en suite floor. The kitchen is fully fitted - everything you could possibly need is provided. It is located a short 5 minute drive from Biltmore Village and a easy drive to downtown Asheville. Treat yourself to a weekend break - you will not be disappointed.

Adorable cabin within walking distance to downtown Asheville
I rented this cabin for my fiancés' birthday and we loved Green Gables! The cabin is roomy and very close to down town. Georgia had dog treats personalized for our fur babies, wine and all the amenities you could need for a vacation in Asheville. Our dogs loved the fenced in front yard and we loved the wrap around porch and big windows to watch them play. The beds were extremely soft and comfortable and the heated tiles in the master bath were a nice touch! We loved our home away from home!

Best Hotel Alternative in Asheville
We have stayed in a lot of vacation rentals, B&Bs, and hotels, and this was one of the best. We will definitely be going back. In the past we have stayed at the Grand Bohemian hotel in Biltmore Village- which was great and dog friendly. But this year we have a new baby, in addition to our toddler, and an au pair in tow. So we were originally looking for two hotel rooms or a rental house. The problem with most rental houses is they are completely unstocked (bring your own toilet paper) and partial weeks are not always allowed. And in hotels it is such a pain to let the dog out in the morning, or get a coffee in pajamas without braving the lobby. As my husband said, the best thing about Green Gables was that it was totally kid friendly without LOOKING kid friendly- it was tastefully and luxuriously decorated and would equally suit an older couple or ladies' getaway. Green Gables was PERFECT. The owner, Georgia, lives in a separate apartment on the second floor of the house. So we had the entire ground floor of the house, its porches and yard all to ourselves, and we only saw Georgia when we arrived. There is even has a keyless code-accessed door so you don't have to "check in" to get the keys. Georgia runs it like a European pension- she provides everything you would get at a B&B, but there are no other guests to contend with so much more privacy. She stocks breakfast items in the fridge (milk, fruit, bread), shampoos and soaps in bathrooms, etc. We did not need to do any grocery shopping upon arrival which was a huge relief- the house was INCREDIBLY WELL STOCKED: salt, pepper, coffee and filters, paper towels, a hair dryer, a full size fridge with ice already made, gas stove, washer, dryer, even everything we needed for the kids- pack n plays, high chair, baby bath, etc. The fenced yard was perfect for us to be able to get up in the mornings and let our toddler and dog play in the yard while we got organized to go hiking or walk downtown. YES WALK DOWNTOWN- even with a stroller it took us 20 minutes to get to the very center of Asheville on foot. It is a great location! Georgia just remodeled the laster bedroom to include a huge ensuite bathroom with double sinks and a deep soaking tub. It was very nice, clean, modern, and the perfect space for our family. Best things: Full washer and dryer means less to pack Fenced yard is secure for kids and/or dog and covered porches are great for relaxing Decor is historic and tasteful- not a tacky kid friendly place Location- walk to all the best restaurants in 20 minutes or less Fully stocked with everything you would possibly need Modern kitchen with full size fridge and gas stove Super clean (and we are extremely picky on this point)- absolutely no evidence of past guests

Warm, charming home and hostess!
Our sons live in asheville, and we had wanted to stay there for Christmas for a couple of years. The one non-negotiable amenity was a fireplace---Green Gables has 3! The home is lovely, and our hostess Georgia even more so. When she discovered a few hours before our arrival that we would be celebrating Christmas the next day, she redecorated the house with wreaths and a small lighted tree, set out wine and cookies, and addressed every member of our party by name in a welcome note. We were very impressed with the level of attention she gives her guests, personally taking care of all the details from booking to follow-up emails. The house is cozy and comfortable, with an old-fashioned soaking tub, gas range, large-screen TV, electronics, internet access, laundry facilities, wonderful beds...just like home, only better! We had fun cooking in the well-equipped kitchen with goodies we bought at the local food co-op. The house is close to downtown, and in better weather we could easily walk to many places we like to go in asheville. We visited the Biltmore Estate, the Southern Craft Guild shop, rode on the Blueridge Parkway, and of course had chocolate extravagance at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge. Doc Chey's restaurant on Biltmore Street provided perfect chicken soup for our son who was under the weather. (It was so good, we revisited the next day for lunch.) Georgia provides a large book with information on all these, which helped us plan our days. We have stayed for shorter periods of time in asheville over the past few years, always in hotels. Our week at Green Gables has cured us of that, and we will stay in our new "home in the mountains" whenever we can in the future!

Charming and well appointed
We loved our stay at Green Gables. The house was well appointed. My only real complaints would be that even the steel could not bring back the kitchen knives to very sharp. But we were not really cooking/chopping. And the claw foot tub is a bit small as a shower. All was as advertised with lots of thoughtful amenities.

Beautiful Old House
This house was filled with beautiful antiques and was like being at your grandmother's house. It was very comfortable for our group of five. It had everything one would need in a kitchen right down to a grill for our pancakes in the morning. A downfalls was the small bathroom right off the kitchen, and although very cute, the bathtub was very small.

Outstanding Home ... Great Host
Georgia is a designer and an architect and those talents shine through in this lovely home. Her communication is timely and beyond thorough! (Really, Georgia, your Information Book has outgrown itself!!! LOL). The house is roomy, the beds have GREAT linens, the kitchen stocked with every basic need (including spices, teas, coffee, sugars, honey, etc)...even a welcome bottle of wine. The location gives easy access to downtown and the interstate. There are definitely places to go within walking distance, weather permitting. (It was too cold during our visit.). Lots of good restaurants! The house is well-insulated and quiet. This is a wonderful home for singles, families, couples. I would hesitate to recommend for anyone mobility challenged because of the bathtub which is adorable but requires a big step UP to get into. As Georgia is so thorough, she likely has an alternative for this **so please check with her if this is an issue for you.** I would hate for you to miss this wonderful experience if she has an accommodation for this. I just didn't this to ask.

Clean, quiet and comfortable retreat in Asheville
My friend came from California and I wanted to explore Asheville with her. I decided against a hotel and sought a homey atmosphere where we could come and go comfortably. Green Gables was perfect! Georgia has a lovely home and greeted us with fruit and cookies as well as wine. Her giant notebook with information on the area was another plus as our time was limited. When my daughter came to join us, she agreed that Green Gables was so much better than a noisy hotel room downtown. We will be back!

How to get there
Green Gables is 15 miles from the Asheville Regional Airport – a 20 minute drive. You can take a cab to and from the airport. Technically, you do not need a car because Green Gables is within walking distance to both the heart of downtown Asheville and the River Arts District, and you can walk or take cabs to all of Asheville's famous restaurants, bars, breweries and music venues. A car is a good idea however, because there is so much else to see and do and experience in the mountains. Green Gables is not far from the Biltmore Estate, but you need a vehicle once inside the gates of this magnificent 8,000 acre estate.
