For those seeking tranquillity within a natural setting yet within reach of all facilities, this superbly appointed air-conditioned town house enjoys one of the very best locations within the lush and idyllic El Cortijo Grande valley. The golf course is no longer a commercial venture but is still playable thanks to local volunteers who tend the greens. Three 18-hole courses are within 20 mins drive, and the international Desert Springs golf resort is 30 minutes' drive. The major beach resort of Mojacar Playa is a 15-minute drive away. There is go-karting at Garrucha and a Water Park at Vera, and plenty of white hillside villages to explore and enjoy beer and tapas. The unspoiled terrain of Almeria has been the setting for countless famous films such as Lawrence of Arabia (the village scenes were filmed in Mojacar Pueblo) and the film studios and sets for the famous spaghetti westerns at Tabernas (only 40 minutes' drive) are an unmissable day out. Cortijo Grande was originally a traditional Spanish village with orange groves, and when the golf course was developed in the 1970's, the original buildings were retained and now form the clubhouse and bar/restaurant (a 3 minute stroll away). Our town house has been extensively refitted in the traditional Rustica style - see photos.The French doors on the ground floor open onto a private terrace with fabulous and far-reaching views of the orange groves, the Sierra Cabrera mountains, the hilltop village of Mojacar Pueblo and the Mediterranean sea. The bedrooms and bathroom are on the upper floor and the main bedroom above has a balcony with even better views! There are traditional villas dotted around this protected valley, and the last major building took place in the 1970s. Guests who love nature, bird-watching and walking will relish the spiritual experience of this idyllic valley framed by tall cypress and eucalyptus trees. We have a wonderfull time at Karen 4 and the view is the best of the hole region. Jim en Connie are wonderfull people. The price for electricity and warming the house was oké in the coldest month of the year. We return! Trees en...More

The first thing that you will notice when approaching Karen 4 is the views....mind blowing! And they are just the same once inside this lovely quaint little house. We had everything we needed for a lovely weeks stay and the thoughtful welcome pack of food...More

On the ground floor is the large lounge / dining room with air-conditioning / heating unit, 'Rustica' fireplace (decorative only), comfortable seating for 5, dining table with 4 chairs, bookcase, coffee and lamp tables, 37' Panasonic flat-screen Smart TV plus DVD player and satellite TV with many UK free-to-air channels. The French doors lead to the private rear terrace with dining for four and brick barbecue suitable for instant barbecues. The terrace is bordered on both sides by colourful bougainvillea, and gets the sun from early morning until late afternoon when the sun moves round to the small front terrace.The rear terrace overlooks orange groves. In the distance to the right is the old clubhouse and cypress trees, ahead is the Sierra Cabrera mountains and the Moorish village of Cabrera, and to the left is the view to the ancient Moorish village of Mojacar Pueblo and the Mediterranean coastline.The stunning fitted kitchen is in 'Rustica' style bordered by timber beams to match the 'rustica' staircase, stainless steel gas hob and electric oven, fridge-freezer, washing machine, microwave and toaster, and halogen lighting.On the upper floor, bedroom 1 has a king-size bed, built-in wardrobe, digital safe, 'rustica' furniture, air-conditioning/heating unit and French doors leading to the balcony overlooking the rear patio and the valley. There are even better views from this bedroom! Bedroom 2 has twin beds, built-in wardrobe with cute roof-tiled top, 'rustica' furniture, air-conditioning/ heating unit and Juliet balcony overlooking the private parking area to the front.The bathroom has been recently re-fitted. The white bathroom suite has a stepped bath/shower, wc, basin with illuminated mirror, and a built-in hair dryer. The town house is fully equipped with iron/ironing board, microwave, dishes, cutlery etc. Bath and hand towels are supplied for each guest, plus kitchen towels. Beach towels, cot and stairgate may be supplied upon request at pre-agreed additional cost. The property is thoroughly cleaned inside and out from top to bottom before each let using our 74-point checklist. We even de-crumb the toaster !

About the neighbourhood
Cortijo Grande was originally a traditional Spanish village with orange groves, and when the golf course was developed in the 1970's, the original buildings were retained and now form the clubhouse and bar/restaurant (a 3 min stroll away). The newer buildings from the 1970's match the old ones, and our town house has been extensively refitted in this traditional Rustica style. ;Los Pinos' restaurant is just over a minute's walk from the house. The cosy and atmospheric Almazara bar/restaurant is housed in the 300-year old clubhouse building a 3 minute stroll away. There are other bar/restaurants in the valley. Please note that 'Los Limoneros' with its huge pool was closed and up for sale January 2014. Like the owners of this townhouse, you don't need to be a golfer to appreciate the beau...
Getting around
A car is really necessary, as this is rural Spain and not Benidorm !! We are happy to advise on car hire. There is a book in the house with recommended days out, restaurants etc, plus a map of the area. There are walking maps in the house.
