HIGHFIELD COLONSAY 2024
HIGHFIELD, COLONSAY, MAY 2024 This is a beautiful house, very comfortably accommodating all seven of us, and the views are amazing –I remember the gorgeous sunsets over the sea we viewed from the upstairs balcony. The beds are all very comfortable, the bathrooms well equipped with good showers, plenty of hot water; the kitchen worked very well too, plenty of everything we needed, everything very clean and worked well. Plenty of room for us all round the dining table; plenty of comfy chairs in the lounge; and a fabulous selection of games –we had such fun with those! The boot room was a blessing too -- meant we could get out of our wet shoes coming back from muddy walks or kayaking on the nearby beach. The house is in a beautiful location, peaceful and wild at the same time, and near a very good sandy beach perfect for launching the kayak. Nick is a wonderful host too – when our ferry was cancelled he let us all stay an extra night for free; and if we needed to contact him about anything he got back to us very quickly. I recommend Highfield very very strongly, and hope to go back soon..

TRULY FABULOUS HOUSE WITH AMAZING VIEWS OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
WOW! What an absolutely fabulous week we've all had at Highfield! Fantastic house in a stunning location with the most breathtaking 360 degree views of the Island and the Atlantic Ocean.....loved watching the sunset from the living room balcony with a glass of the local Wild Island Gin....it went down a treat!! The facilities are just super...the owners have thought about everything we needed to make our stay a great one. There's also plenty of room for the children to play and for us adults to chill.....the games provided are a big thumbs up from us all as well ! Colonsay is truly a hidden gem, the beaches are amazing with pure white powder sand and crystal clear water which we loved swimming in. The locals are so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Make sure you pay a visit to The Gallery shop next to the ferry terminal, there are lots of lovely handmade items for sale in there. We fell in love with Colonsay and can't wait to return to Highfield, it's the best holiday house we've ever rented....thanks!

Hi Sam thanks so much for the review of Highfield. It is great to hear that you fell in love with Colonsay, just the same as we did after our first holiday there in the 1970's....and not too much has changed on the island since! We hope to see you at Highfield again soon. Thanks again Nick & Lynne

Exceptionally comfortable family holiday home on a stunning island.
Great family holiday home. Spacious, light, airy , well equipped with stunning views. The house was spotless and comfortable and well equipped with toys, games, books, dvd's etc for a range of young kids; dog friendly (without conditions or additional charges, which is a pleasant change!) Beautiful island, stunning beaches, great pub....perfect holiday.

We've fallen in love with Colonsay!!
We had seen the reviews of Highfield before we booked and were impressed - we were even more delighted when we saw it for ourselves! The house is lovely, it is clean and well laid out with plenty of room for all eleven of us (and one dog!) We all fell in love with Colonsay, the beaches were beautiful and the people so friendly and welcoming - we were all very sad to leave and look forward to a return trip!

An Absolutely Fantastic House with stunning views !!!!
Ten of us stayed in this house with no problem. Fantastic views over the Atlantic and very relaxing, Great if you like to relax and chill out or if you have a couple of dogs like we did. kiloran beach is wonderful or walk further to Balnahard beack. The Island is small and is nice to go around on a bike if the weather is dry ! The owners could not have been more helpful and accommodating. My wife left her phone and the people who take care of any problems posted it back without a problem. We went when the music festival was on and there was a heap of Scottish talent ! The locals of Colonsay are lovely people and always make you feel welcome. If you havn't been before I gurauntee you will love it and so will anyone who goes with you. This was the best house we have stayed in yet by far and this is our fourth ! we will definately be returning soon to relax and take in the wonder of the Inner Hebrides !

Our favourite Colonsay accommodation
We would wholeheartedly recommend this house. Superbly well maintained, spacious with a great ocean view. In the centre of the island making everywhere very accessible. Lots of bathrooms and living space. TIP: Ideal for a large party OR a couple as the bedroom floor can be shut off leaving master bedroom, living space, balcony and view. We look forward to our next visit

Wonderful place
Amazing house with loads of space. Lovely and clean when we arrived and freshly made bread waiting in the kitchen for us. We had a few issues with the hot water - but I think this was because the weather was so good we found the house warm and turned everything off including the hot water! Colonsay is a wonderful place to get away from it all. Beautiful beaches, great walks and peace and quiet.

One of the best self catering houses we have stayed in
Highfield was exactly what we were looking for - peaceful, comfortable, and well located. There were only two of us so we only used the upstairs areas, but the house is perfect for larger groups. Every evening we could watch the sunset over the sea from the living room. In terms of mod cons, Highfield was very well equipped, with good heating, good size fridge and freezer and laundry facilities. The fact that the house was dog friendly was the most important factor for us, and the enclosed garden was a bonus. We would definitely stay here again.

About the neighbourhood
The Isle of Colonsay is a small island paradise off the beautiful west coast of Scotland which is virtually unknown to the majority of even the UK population. The island is not widely advertised as it has a very limited supply of holiday accommodation and during the peak periods they are often booked up a year or more in advance, particularly as so many people return time and again to enjoy the unique beauty and tranquillity on offer. Our house is new to the rental market in 2012, having previously been lived in by island residents since it was built 8 years ago. Colonsay is 10 miles long and 2 miles wide and has many fantastic beaches. The island is also home to much wildlife, as mentioned at the top of this page, including thousand of sea birds perched on dramatic cliffs, colonies of seals and a range of 500 different flora and fauna. In addition there are 120 friendly islanders and lots of sheep! Amenities include a lovely hotel, a cosy pub, a café, an excellent bookshop, a very well stocked local shop (although the newspapers can be up to 3 day behind!) with post office and there is also an island brewery. Activities are too many to mention but include organised walks, days on the beach, pub quiz nights, weekend dances, eating out, having a picnic or BBQ on the beach, a few drinks down the pub, art exhibitions, wildlife spotting, fast boat trips round the island and much much more. Colonsay has an equally beautiful neighbouring island called Oronsay which, as well as having yet more sandy beaches, also has the historic ruins of a 14th century priory. Oronsay can be reached by foot at low water when the tide exposes a mile of sand known as ‘The Strand’.

How to get there
Most people reach Colonsay by a wonderful 2.5 hour ferry journey from the town of Oban on the mainland of Scotland. The dramatic sea route takes you past many islands including Mull, Seil and Jura and once on the ferry your holiday really starts as you leave the mainland behind. The island can also be reached from a second ferry port called Kennacraig and by air and fast boat from near Oban. Bear in mind it is essential to bring a car with you, as although the total road mileage is quite small there is no regular public transport available on Colonsay. Further details on how to book ferries and flights can be obtained from the owners of the property.
