The Galloway Forest Park, Britain's largest, is about 1 hour's drive away. The interior of the cottage is light and airy, with the lounge having a lovely view over the lawn and garden, and the general ambiance is country cottage but with an individual and artistic slant. Although a 1 - bedroom cottage, there is also a spare, comfortable folding bed for a child or extra guest. Wi-fi internet is available. Pets are welcome. Please see our adjacent one bedroom property on Trip Advisor/Flipkey at - 'The Studio, Beach 10mins, Portpatrick 15mins'. This may be particularly useful for groups of 3 or 4 who wish to travel together as the property also sleeps 2. UPDATE: As of mid June 2015, we now have Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband, so the internet is both much faster and more reliable.More

Great location for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. Splendid accommodation, fully equipped kitchen/dining area, extremely comfortable lounge and bedroom, clean and well maintained. Three level apartment with private entrance and large gardens. Pet friendly, the dog loved the place and made friends with the owners dogs. A lovely place to stay, thank you Philip and Lesley.

Kildrochet House is a welcoming holiday home set in quiet grounds. It is situated perfectly to explore the many attractions the area has to offer and we will be more than happy to return.

This is truly a beautiful property in a gorgeous location, just a short drive from Portpatrick and local interest spots. The cottage is spectacularly clean and well appointed and is excellent value for money. Philip is a great host and we can't recommend a stay here enough.

Peaceful, quiet, stylish apartment with own entrance in an attractive country house. The living room is comfortable and overlooks a tree-lined garden. The large bedroom is secluded and well-appointed. There is a large sandy beach nearby and interesting attractions in the area - botanic gardens and the lighthouse for example. The hosts are very pleasant and accommodating.

A quintessentially comfortable and beautiful Victorian cottage that feels typically British. We immediately made this home and it was perfect for a six night stay after lockdown. Perfect location for lots of walking to explore the area, coastal walks as well as tackling the Merrick - and enjoying a hot soak afterwards in the slipper bath. Very quiet location - with the busy chattering of birds in the dawn chorus at 4am. Highly recommended.

The house and grounds were amazing. The apartment was ideal for us (a couple and a dog). Although attached to the main house, it has it’s own separate entrance and feels secluded. It is a real home from home and has everything you would need. It is located a short drive from Portpatrick and Stranraer and is well positioned for exploring the surrounding areas ... the Mull of Galloway, Wigtown, Whithorn etc. There is a beach a short drive away, Sandhead. We managed to cram in quite a lot of sightseeing as well as a lovely meal in the Mount Stewart Hotel. I would definitely recommend this holiday home.

Kildrochet Cottage was well positioned for exploring the Mull of Galloway, the Rhins and the Machars. The cottage is part of a lovely period house and has great character and very comfortable. The grounds to the main house are extensive and great for a dog to explore.

We spent a very relaxing week here at the end of July. The cottage is spacious, well equipped and tastefully decorated. There is plenty of room for a couple and dog, with a roomy kitchen and dining area, bright and charming sitting room overlooking attractive gardens and a lovely bedroom with a very comfortable bed, en suite and a stand alone bath. Kildrochet is an excellent base for exploring the western part of Galloway, with good restaurants, shops and facilities within easy reach, as well as plenty of things to see and do in the region. Philip makes an excellent, welcoming host and we hope very much to return in the future.

About the neighbourhood
At the head of The Mull of Galloway, the peninsula at the southernmost point of Scotland. In the countryside of Wigtownshire at the junction of the A716 an B7077. Very near several beaches and the lovely villages of Portpatrick, Wigtown, Port Logan and Kirkcudbright.
Getting around
Having a car is highly recommended as we are out in the countryside and getting around regularly in taxis would be very expensive.
