Balintore Castle has been extending her magical hospitality to guests since 1860. The building is located in a remote Angus Glen: offering direct access to hill walking, mountain biking, bird-watching and shooting. The kitchen wing accommodation has been lovingly and newly restored in keeping with the high Victorian character of the building.
The space
The holiday accommodation is located in the kitchen wing of the castle. This is the first area that has been brought to full habitability in the initial phase of a restoration program that started in 2007. Accommodation costs will be entirely directed towards further restoration of the castle.

Guest access
Guests have full access to the kitchen wing, but are not allowed in the remainder of the castle which is not restored and is dangerous. However, the host will be able to show you around the whole building.
Interaction with guests
Your host, the owner of the castle, will delighted to answer your questions and show you around. If he is not on hand, there will be an equally knowledgeable stand-in.
Other things to note
If you are expecting the perfection of an luxury international hotel chain, then Balintore Castle is not for you! However, if you want a more characterful and 'crumbly round the edges' experience and to be the house guests of a Highland Laird in a traditional Scottish Castle which once teetered on the brink of dereliction, then you will be made very welcome. Note that the 3rd bedroom can be configured to your requirements - either a king-sized bed, two singles or as a cosy seating area or 'snug'.

With a night away a rarity for us, it has to be special – goodness did we choose well with Balintore Castle! We will be talking about our visit for a long time. David has that knack of making you feel instantly at home in this grand scale, beautiful Castle; a genuinely magical experience. All from Wi-Fi to games, fresh flowers and fruit along with a full fridge supplied, and David was very helpful with all arrangements beforehand. Our toddler loved exploring the castle, and we all slept like logs; beautiful huge beds and cosy duvets.
We were lucky enough to get a clear day for a guided tour and history of the whole Castle and incredibly detailed restoration, including the rooftop views (thanks again David). I wish we’d had more time to explore the local area –this actually made a good stopover point for our onward journey South; thank you David for a wonderful stay.
