About the neighbourhood
This is an excellent base from which to explore Skye, being only seven miles from Portree, the capital of the Island, which offers the benefits of a small town with a tourist information office, Heritage centre with Sea eagle exhib- ition and many other attractions. Portree is a small fishing port from where you can take a boat trip to the shores of the nearby islands of Raasay and Rhona, and view the wild life including the Sea Eagles. The district of Braes lies to the south of Portree, and is made up of nine crofting townships. At Balmeanach a spit of land reaches into the narrows of Raasay. This is an area rich in wildlife, geology and history. Within view of the house is where in 1882 The “Battle of the Braes' took place.
Getting around
Unlimited scope exists for hill walking or rock climbing in the Cuillin Hills where the spectacular views are second to none. All of this and more is within easy access of “Taigh an t-Sithein” Gedintailor, Braes and when it comes to dining out you will be spoilt for choice with many fine Hotels and Restaurants, offering the very best in Highland Fare and local produce, perhaps washed down with a ‘wee dram’ produced by Talisker, the island’s own whisky distillery. ‘We hope you will come to our Beautiful Island and enjoy’
