Kyleakin, Isle of Skye, The Hebrides, Scotland
The Anchorage is the owner's private holiday residence, available to discerning guests and completely redesigned in early 2018. It is superbly located in an enviable position right on the foreshore of one of the best locations in Scotland, All the rooms in the house overlook Loch Alsh and the heather clad mountains of the Scottish Highlands on the mainland beyond.

The cottage is the perfect all-seasons self catering holiday accommodation for seaside-loving, mountain-walking, wildlife-watching, peace-searching people who love wilderness beaches, gastronomic delights and a touch of the Celtic.
The garden has a gate which leads straight onto the private foreshore, from where you can fish, have a glass of wine, or just sit and watch the yachts, naval and fishing boats come and go, including the occasional submarine or cruise liner. Oppos...

The Anchorage is tucked away in a very quiet corner, the only sounds you'll hear will be from the wind, the waves, birds in the garden and, occasionally, the rain. Kyleakin has three places to eat and two to get a drink - and the...More

Wonderful location on the edge of the sea loch. Ideally situated for seeing all that Skye has to offer. The cottage has wonderful views and has been thoughtfully refurbished to a high standard. A really lovely week.

About the neighbourhood
The Anchorage is perfectly situated for touring both the dramatic north and lush south of the island. There are numerous castles, including the famous Eilean Donan, the challenging walks and climbs of the Cuillin mountain range, fabulous waterfalls cascading onto sandy beaches, highland cattle and pretty villages such as Plockton on the mainland close byThere are whale-watching excursions and boat trips to numerous islands such as Raasay, Rhum, Eigg, and many more. Beaches with spectacular views can be found around the island and we particularly like Elgol and Tarskavaig, each of which are within about half an hours drive. Gaelic can occasionally and the Skye ceilidhs are a must. There are several excellent world-class restaurants on Skye, which is rapidly becoming known for its cuisine. Am... more
Getting around
The best way to see Skye is by car - no doubt about it. There are also loads of great roads for cycling too (some of them original roads that have now been bypassed, so they are car free).
Getting to Skye, if you are not driving, can be done by rail to Kyle of Lochalsh, ideal from Inverness, the nearest airport about two hours away. The railway station is right across the water from the house and about 7 minutes away by taxi.

How to get there
Airport: Inverness: 120.0 km
Railway: Kyle: 3.0 km
Ferry: Mallaig: 43.0 km
Approximately 4 hours north west of Glasgow, the western route takes in some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland, including Loch Lomond, Glen Coe, Ben Nevis and Kintail.
Alternatively there are regular very low cost flights from Luton with Easy-Jet to Inverness. Then train to Kyle of Lochalsh - one of the prettiest railway journeys in the world! The house is 5 minutes taxi journey away.
Or just drive from anywhere in the UK - it's about 10 hours drive from London. But you won't find a more dramatic journey anywhere in the UK!
