Lovely cottage for good weather but no wifi
We had a very relaxing week here, and were lucky to have exceptionally good weather. The cottage is quirky and interesting, dry, warm and comfortable, and generally more spacious than it seemed from the photos. We used the west facing sun room a lot, both to dry off our swimming gear and to relax in, and there's also an east facing sun room looking over the courtyard and driveway, which was useful on evenings when the sun was too bright to read. The kitchen had a good fridge and freezer with a microwave and oven, but little work space or storage, and we quickly replaced the microwave with the kettle and toaster which were plugged into the dining room. There were no apparent lids for saucepans and we improvised. The beds were comfy, and while it was lovely to have skylights right above the bedheads in September, it may not be so much fun in June. Kate the owner was lovely with our elderly retriever, who was welcomed, as were we, into her part of the garden. The small and fairly private piece of garden around the sun room wasn't fenced off. We swam a lot at Calgary beach nearby and enjoyed the excellent cafe at the arts centre there - however we understood that the couple running the cafe were moving on at the end of the season. Luckily we weren't dependent on wifi, as it really wasn't readily available, despite Kate's tips, although we did get occasional bursts through ee mobile data.

Great location but needs some TLC.
We stayed in Frachadil Cottage in August. We’ve had loads of holidays up north so we know what the score is. This is an honest review of our experience. Pros: The owner of the cottage (Kate) stays on site and is welcoming and knowledgable about the area. She was helpful getting our car sorted when we had a flat tire. The house is quaint and quirky and very traditional. Plenty of hot water and heating facilities. Freeview TV in living room and lots of books. The sun rooms offer good views and a relaxing space to read and if you’re into birdwatching, you’re in for a treat. Amazing accessibility to beaches - Calgary is a fifteen minute walk down the road and Langamull Bay (arguably even more beautiful than Calgary) is nearby too. Some great hill walks around about the cottage and Tobermory is an hour away by car. Comfy beds. Great location. Beautiful on the rare occasion that the sun comes out. Cons: Apparently we were the first people in eight years to miss the cottage as we were driving by and end up getting lost. We doubt this as the sign is tiny, but just keep it in mind as you’re making your way. If you’re looking for a truly remote stay, this isn’t it - owner lives right next door and the plot does feel a bit cramped. Very little storage space in the kitchen so we were living out of bags. Skylights in both bedrooms - lovely feature but no optional curtains or blinds. This meant we were awake as soon as the sun was up. Rubbish to not be able to sleep in past 7am on your holidays! By far the most disappointing aspect was the lack of WiFi despite this being advertised. WiFi is available via the farmhouse where the owner stays and you ‘connect’ by standing outside her door and using the password available. However, as soon as you step back into the cottage you lose connection. This has been ‘remedied’ by the owner installing a WiFi repeater in the cottage’s kitchen. Now if this worked it would be perfect as the repeater is listed first in the available networks on our devices (Wireless N). However, it requires a password that Kate does not have. Upon further inquiry we learned that they hadn’t actually paired the repeater with the router, making it pointless. We were told it worked fine for the last guests - no further solution offered aside from coming into the farmhouse to use the WiFi there but that’s not the point. We paid for WiFi in the cottage we were actually living in. Of course you come to a place like Mull for the scenery, the wildlife, and escaping the hustle and bustle of home, but Scotland also has days where the weather is abysmal which means being stuck indoors. Our first 3 days on Mull were very much like that. We had to rely on our mobile data which wasn’t ideal. WiFi is always spotty on the isles but not getting any at all in the cottage is quite frustrating, especially as Kate made a very condescending comment when we were trying to rectify the issue. If you’re planning a visit, don’t bother bringing laptops etc in case of rainy days. Stock up on the board games and books instead and be prepared to watch a lot of Come Dine With Me. Overall the place is in dire need of sprucing up. You can easily introduce modern tastes into a place like this while still retaining the character and history. We would definitely return to Mull as the island has so much to offer, but unfortunately this will be our only stay at Frachadil.

Lovely old cottage amazing area
Kate made us welcome from the moment we arrived with plenty of advice about the local area .The cottage is a quirky island cottage with two sun lounges that get the morning and afternoon sun . Plenty of hot water and use of a garden …although we didnt get to use it much as it rained for most of the week. Mull is an amazing island and Calgary bay the most beautiful beach only a short walk away with some stunning walks nearby . We had a lovely stay.

Fabulous Frachadil
A brilliant, characterful cottage easy walk to the stunning Calgary Beach. Felt very smug walking there, doing our bit for the environment and not fighting it out for limited parking. Cottage had everything required for a quiet, relaxing stay. Wonderful host Kate was a mine of information. The area is very special from a wildlife perspective with incredible wild beaches, deer, hares, shore birds, orchids, buzzards nest viewed from bed with a mug tea of a morning! Can't recommend more highly.

Fantastic holiday at Fracadill Cottage
We stayed at Fracadil cottage for a week from 9 April. We found it was the perfect location close to Calgary Bay and some lovely walks and beaches. The house had loads of character and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. It is not all mod cons but if you are looking for a real escape it has everything. It was a real island cottage. Our dog loved it there and so did we. Kate the owner lives on site and was amazingly helpful regarding the property and places to walk and visit. We were warm enough with the heaters and the log burning stove and the bed was so comfy we slept so well each night with the skylight to see the stars was great. Everything worked perfectly for us including the Wi-Fi and TV and if you wanted anything you just had to ask Kate. We are outdoor people and it suited us perfectly. Based on the costs of self catering currently it was great value for money.

Cold and gruby
The cottage is set in an idilyc situation and we had some gorgeous weather while we were there. However we were the 1st people to stay here after the winter and it was obvious. The cottage was very cold on arrival and remained so for the 1st 3 or 4 days. It was so cold we were unable to use the sitting room for the first four evenings. The 'logs' provided were builders off cuts and burnt very quickly without providing much heat. We bought logs in Dervaig and managed to get the placed warmed enough to use the sitting room by mid week. The Television satellite had been subject to damage from a storm and although it was promised to be fixed on Monday it was Wednesday before it was fixed and the television back in use. We had to ask for a radio in the meantime which was provided when we asked. The internet was only accessible if we stood outside, near the owners house door - not at all ideal but at least it was dry, if cold, while we were there - rainy weather would have been a nightmare. The front sun lounge was unusable for the duration of our stay - beds were being stored in there. The house was quite grubby with cobwebs and dust in every corner. The trinkets and ornaments add to the cottages quirkiness but were all dust magnets. We had to wash everything before we used it. The area behind the beds was dirty. One of our party slipped in the bath badly bruising and cutting his leg - we suggest some kind of non slip surface is applied to the bath or handles are instaled. Adjusting the water for the shower proved very difficult and could be dangerous to the user as the water is very hot. The vacuum provided didn't have a hose so it was impossible for us to clean efficiently at the end of our stay.

A cosy cottage set in a beautiful area and lees than a mile from the beach.
What a beautiful, peaceful location. This pretty cottage is less than a mile from Calgary beach. The cottage is quirky and cosy. Our dog loved all the lovely walks on the doorstep. The owner, Kate, was very welcoming and helpful. She lives in another property on the premises and is on hand to answer any quires and is very friendly. The only thing I would have liked was more cooking utensils but that's only a tiny negative as the rest of the accommodation was great. We will be definitely be visiting again.

A quirky cottage just right for two
Close to Calgary beach which is gorgeous, and its lovely cafe. The owner of the cottage lives next door and is very friendly and relaxed. It has a nice little conservatory just right for enjoying the setting sun. Our dog was made very welcome.
