Cottage -
2 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 4
Combe Martin, Exmoor National Park, England
Charming, cosy and comfortable mid-19th century terraced cottage in Combe Martin on the edge of Exmoor, with sweeping views from our garden of the gorgeous Devon countryside, and simple, tasteful interiors.

Combe Martin is a fantastic base for a holiday: it has its own beach (20 minutes' walk from our cottage), all the amenities you might need (bank, small supermarkets, four pubs, post office, chemist), its own folk club (Shammick Acoustic) and medieval church (with a beautiful recently restored rood screen).

The village is a brilliant base for fantastic beaches at Croyde and Woollacombe, plus gorgeous walks on the cliffs and on Exmoor. There is loads to do in the area; we are also not too far the famous Damien Hirst sculpture, Verity, at Ilfracombe!

Our cottage was renovated by us after standing empty for nearly ten years, and now...

Really nice cottage with everything you need and an amazing garden! You can walk to the sea and its in a great spot for hikes on Exmoor or a short drive to surf spots around North Devon. Highly recommended and would love to stay again.

A beautiful cottage well presented with a lot of period feel and modern faculties. Huge garden at the rear of the property with space to sit out and barbeque if that is your thing. The sitting room has a log burner for colder nights and...More

About the neighbourhood
There's a lot to do for children in Combe Martin and the surrounding areas, with many wildlife parks, beach safaris and boat trips, as well as shops and icecream opportunities!

There is a lot of live music, some theatre, and various National Trust properties in the area, as well as the most haunted house in the UK in the form of Chambercombe Manor in Ilfracombe.

Eating out in north Devon can be a bit of a mixed bag, but Combe Martin has the Pack O' Cards as a favourite eatery, plus the highly recommended Top Chippy for fish and chips. There are some very good pubs in the vicinity such as the Black Venus in Challacombe and the Fox & Goose in Parracombe, and in the summer months, the Thai curry vendor sets up his stall at Barricane Beach, where you can have a cheap curry and yo...
Getting around
Getting around the area is very easy by car. There is a local taxi service, but this has to be booked in advance, particularly on weekend evenings.
There are buses, which are reliable but not frequent. You can, for instance, take an early evening bus from Combe Martin to Ilfracombe, but you will have to book a cab for the return journey, as buses don't run back to the village late in the evening.

How to get there
Airport: Bristol: 120.0 km
Railway: Barnstaple: 20.0 km
Favourite stop off points on the journey from London to north Devon are Stonehenge and Glastonbury, but there are many more; we use the National Trust handbook, and have found many places of interest on the way, such as Avebury, Lacock Abbey and Longleat.
All require a bit of a detour, but it breaks up the journey and makes it feel as if the holiday has started earlier!
