About the neighbourhood
Bigbury on Sea beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag in recognition of excellent standards, particularly its efforts to make the beach accessible to everyone. It is one of the South Coasts best locations for windsurfing, canoeing and dramatic coastal walks and is, undoubtedly, one of the most stunning beaches in the South Hams. Bigbury's most famous landmark is Burgh Island, which overlooks the beach itself. The island is accessible at low tide, when the waters reveal a causeway that links it to the beach. However, when the tide is in you can still reach the island by hitching a ride on the popular and unique sea tractor.
