Country House stay
e chose the Smithstown house for its location outside of Dublin but close enough to travel. The house was easy to find and we met the owners sister on arrival. Facilities on paper are all there but if you expect super modern this isn’t for you. One shower upstairs is outdated and not the best experience. The downstairs shower was better quality but remember to put the emersion heater on when you arrive. WiFi is limited with a booster on the landing upstairs that does help but don’t expect great connectivity to internet - not a lot to be done about that as the house is remote. The grounds are stunning, for a family the facilities for outside are all available and our boys loved it. A nice touch would have been a ‘welcome pack’, a lot of holiday rentals get at least fresh milk on for you after travels but nothing here. Also missing that we would have benefitted from is local information. There is a basket in the kitchen with lots and lots of flyers for many things/places but we didn’t have a day to plough through that. A simple up to date folder would have been great with local recommendations. If you want a remote, beautiful location and quiet Smithstown House is great. We travelled to Dublin, Wicklow, Howth and Belfast easily from the house so as a base it was good.

Fabulous stay
What a fantastic location, rural heaven with the convenience of a short drive to local amenities. The house is fantastic and has a huge garden which our kids made full use of. The house has all you need for a comfortable stay. James the owner is a lovely fella and we enjoyed meeting him. Will definitely be back.

Ideal
I have given this accommodation 5 star because it fulfilled the needs of our group. There were 5 of us girls and each one of us had our own bed unlike other holiday accommodation trying to fit us all in to double beds. The bathrooms and bedrooms were immaculate and very comfy. I think the 'cleaner' ran out of steam when it came to cleaning the kitchen area, since the oven and some cooking trays and items had not been cleaned. We could have moaned to James about this but it was only a minor issue especially as the house and area is so beautifully placed, with plenty of green to walk around, and bicycles for use to enjoy the surrounding countryside. James was really kind and helpful, and responded to our questions with a wealth of useful information about places to visit in the surrounding area, the distance, the best way to get there, yet he did not intrude on our privacy. I would definitely go back there again.

Thank you for your review Andrew. We agree Smithstown is in a very tranquil setting while being a great location to see the attractions of the Boyne Valley and all it has to offer, yet only a quick drive to the vibrant city of Dublin. All the best, James.

Relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings - superb!
We throughly enjoyed our stay at The Butler's House Dunshaughlin. The accommodation was comfortable and spacious. James the owner was very helpful with any questions we had and it was great he was living next door if we needed him. Everything in the house was carefully thought out and well equipped, from the kitchen to the bedrooms. The views from the windows of the grounds were fantastic and we could roam freely round the garden too. All that could be heard in the mornings was bird song. I would throughly recommend this property for a peaceful and relaxing break.
