With its reclaimed pine cupboards and Belfast sink, this cottage offers a true cottage holiday. The cottage no longer has a real fire due to recent rules on fuel. The beautiful and peaceful village of Sancton sits in a hollow on the western slope of the glorious Yorkshire Wolds some 9 miles from the bustling and vibrant town of Beverley. Commanding a sweeping view of the village is the lovely 15th century church of All Saints, featuring a three stage octagonal tower and lantern roof. Marmaduke Cottage derives its name from the staunch Royalist Sir Marmaduke Langdale a famous General for Charles 1. Marmaduke Cottage is a perfect base if you just want to relax ,follow one of the National Trails on the Wolds Way or explore the wonderful city of York. The many market towns of the Wolds offer a wide choice of entertainment and some of the finest dining experiences. Marmaduke Cottage offers a cosy and welcoming stay in a truly country cottage from the roses and lavender in the garden to the open fire in the original cast fire place. The oak beams and quarry tiled floor are the character of this cottage giving the guests a warm and big Yorkshire Welcome. Maybe you just want to enjoy the countryside: the cottage is listed on the Yorkshire Wildlife site as a member of the Puffin Nature Triangle, this site lists all the nature trails and events in the area. We offer information on walks in the area and nature reserves to watch the wildlife which vary with the seasons. The cottage is part of the Wolds Way a chance to view the Vale of York or look for miles on a clear day in all directions. We offer short breaks from 2 nights.

Beautiful snug cottage
Marmaduke is a beautiful snug cottage set in a very quiet village. With lots of places to visit near by. The cottage is spotless and all covid rules are followed. The Ellis family couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Thank you so much for allowing me to visit such a clean and safe place in these uncertain times. I will definitely be back!!!!!!!

Cute cottage - home from home
We had a lovely evening stay in this cute cottage with a real homely feel. The cottage is situated in a stunning country village with a pub 2 minutes walk. The cottage is clean and comfortable with a real homely feel and an environment that makes you feel relaxed. This cute cottage is cosy and welcoming and has an open fire that you can curl up in front of. Would definitely stay here again! Well worth a stay with a really friendly land lady!

Lovely country cottage break
We really enjoyed our stay in Sancton. The cottage is well equipped for a couple or small family, is peaceful and in a lovely location. Hosts were particularly attentive and thoughtful with some lovely touches, like cake and drinks available on arrival and plenty of firewood and kindling available for the open fire. Highly recommended.

Great example of a charming, traditional cottage.
When we visit holiday properties, we are always looking for something authentic with character and Marmaduke Cottage doesn't disappoint. What a gem! Marmaduke is situated down a quiet road with ample parking, a garden with great views and an award winning pub on the doorstep. Inside there is a cast iron stove and quarry floor tiles. The bed is comfy and the cottage whole cottage is warm and welcoming. Helena provided a generous welcome pack and gave us all the info we needed to make our stay an enjoyable and memorable one. We have never been to this part of the country before but came over for a wedding at the church across the field, which can be seen from the living room window. The reception was at the pub around the corner. We extended our stay to give us time to explore the area and we're so pleased we did. We're hoping to come back in the summer. Thanks Helena

Excellent
We had a very short stay and were not in a lot but the facilities were excellent and we were warm and comfortable. Our timetable did bot allow for exploration of the local walks etc. There is a splendid pub just round the corner.

The best Holiday Cottage in East Yorkshire!
I stayed at Marmaduke Cottage while on a week holiday and I couldn’t of asked anything more. It was Home from Home. The Cottage is; Warm, Cosy, Very Clean, and a really good size for the age of the property. Meeting Helena and David for the first time was like I have known them for years. Very down to earth people and will always ensure you have the best and comfortable visit. I’m definitely going back to visit and it’s given me the best insight to a future in Yorkshire. I would definitely reccomend Marmaduke Cottage to anyone looking for a good break away from home. 🙂

Small neat well located cottage
The cottage is one of a row on a quiet side road. There is parking front and back, and a nice garden behind, good for afternoon tea. The kitchen is large and well equipped although no dishwasher. The stairs are steep, narrow, and with short treads. The beds are comfortable, and with the quiet location make for a good night's sleep. Just round the corner is the Star, a pub serving good ales, but focused on the dining experience. I would happily go there again.
