Turning right from the entrance takes you up Polkirt Hill - our road - with the most stunning views of Mevagissey, its harbour and the coastline. Take a seat in Cliff Park to take in the view, its less than 5 minutes up Polkirt Hill from the cottage. If it is raining or you are just feeling lazy - enjoy the views across the harbour to the sea from the comfort of the living room. Polkirt Forge is ideally situated to enjoy all that Mevagissey has to offer. Polkirt Forge is a traditional mid-terrace double fronted stone cottage originally starting life as a forge for the local fishermen and later becoming a chapel until the congregation outgrew it. Now rebuilt using the original stone and set on rising ground, enjoy harbour views across village rooftops to the sea and coastline from the main living room and master bedroom both located on the first floor. Enter the cottage into a spacious hallway which runs the length of the cottage. On the right you will find the well equipped kitchen (new in 2017) with exposed wooden beams. On the left as you enter, a dining / play room includes a TV with DVD to keep the younger ones entertained. Down the hall takes you to bedroom two with two small single beds which can be converted to a king size double - we will check with you before your arrival. The bedroom looks out onto the small but totally secluded rear courtyard - big enough to barbecue your selection from the fish stall! The courtyard is being repaved in February 2018. A downstairs cloakroom with WC and wash basin is opposite the bedroom. Past the kitchen the hallway widens and stairs lead up to the first floor. A large family size bathroom (new 2016) is at the top of the stairs with bath and separate shower facilities. Down two stairs to the comfortable beamed living room cosy and furnished with leather sofa's and armchair providing comfortable seating for at least 6 people when needed. Two windows from this room provide lovely harbour and sea views - looking east towards Fowey, Looe and towards Plymouth across St Austell Bay. The main bedroom with a double bed is opposite the living room and also enjoys the same sea and harbour views. The property benefits from gas central heating. There is a log effect electric fire in the living room for those cooler evenings. A travel cot and high chair are available - towels and linen provided - but please bring your own beach towels. Wifi and fast Internet (approximately 35Mps) is available so that you can keep in touch while on holiday - bring your own music player and connect it to the Kitsound Boomdock docking station for great sound when you are in the mood for music! We stayed at Polkirt Forge for 4 nights. The cottage is very convenient for Mevagissey village and the owner had arranged and paid for parking at a local car park. We found it quite straightforward to laid and unload the car at a passing place...More

Polkirt Cottage is brilliantly positioned by being just a short walk to a gorgeous working harbour, using either the nearby steps or a short walk between the houses or shops. It was lovely to wander around Mevagissey both first thing in the morning and early...More

Views overlooking the harbour, close to beaches. Mevagissey is a picture-postcard village with narrow streets and bags of character. Cottage is very comfortable and better equipped than any other that we have stayed in. There were 3 minor glitches which the owner is aware of...More

About the neighbourhood
While Mevagissey is near perfect as a base to explore the rest of Cornwall, for many and particularly those seeking a more relaxing holiday - it is possible to leave the car parked for a week and organise a variety of excursions on foot, by boat or by public transport. Indeed it is very easy to travel to and from Mevagissey by public transport - leaving the car at home. Take the inter city train to St Austell and the local bus will take you direct to Mevagissey in less than 30 minutes - it usually leaves at 30 minute intervals - but check first. Any holiday in Mevagissey should allow plenty of time simply to mooch around the village and harbour. There is always something happening on the harbour and there are plenty of places to just sit and watch - accompanied of course by an ice cream....
How to get there
We will send you full details about the location of the cottage a few weeks before your holiday. The rental includes a free parking permit for one vehicle in the Willows car park located at the entrance to the village. But you don't need a car to visit Mevagissey - take a train to nearby St Austell station then a local bus service runs from the station to Mevagissey hourly taking around 30 minutes to the Mevagissey village centre. From the bus stop opposite the Willows car park it's just a few minutes walk to the cottage.
