About the neighbourhood
Denstone was mainly agricultural until 1840, when Sir Thomas Heywood, a wealthy banker, came to live at Dove Leys just outside the village. Wanting to become the Squire of the village he employed the finest architect of the day, Edmund Street, to build the Church, the school and Church Lodge, now Heywood Hall. He then went on to build Denstone College to provide education for local children, now a thriving school with over 600 pupils.
JCB is a main employer in the area with its World Headquarters within walking distance.
Bus links are excellent to the local town of Uttoxeter and its racecourse. Other links are to Rocester, Derby and Ashbourne.
The village is friendly and welcoming with its own pub, the Tavern offering excellent food and unusual wines, and local beers.
The Denstone Hall farm shop and cafe is a great stop after a long walk. It has and excellent deli and butcher selling award winning meats and cheeses.
Denstone is a great starting place for your visits to the area, it has ideal road connections making easy access to many attractions.
