Holiday Rental House -
4 Bedrooms , 3 Bathrooms , Sleeps 8
Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England
The Old School sits in the tiny hamlet of Mordington Clappers, 4 miles inland of Berwick-upon-Tweed and dates back to the mid-19th Century and is a grade 2 listed building. It was converted in 2006 after many years as a School (until the 2nd World War) village hall and community centre. It retains many of it's original features including wood panelling and large sash windows.

The main house has 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin). There is also a self contained 'flat' to the rear of the main house providing spacious accommodation for 2 to 4 people which is ideal for a family group.

The internal layout of the main house is modern and benefits from central heating. The cloakroom/boot room leads to the large newly fitted and well equipped oak kitchen/breakfast room. This leads to a very large, open plan, lounge and formal dining...

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in the old school. The owner was very helpful. My daughter particularly enjoyed the bear corner and my two sons enjoyed the murder mystery games. The cottage is situated on the border between Scotland and England.

It was a pleasure to rent our home to Cheryl and her family. Cheryl was a lovely guest and good communicator and she respected our home and left it in good order. We hope Cheryl will return.

About the neighbourhood
Berwick was once Scotland’s wealthiest Royal Burgh and greatest seaport. Its strategic location and commercial importance put Berwick in the front line enduring 300 years of warfare in the middle ages. The period 1296 to 1482 saw the castle and town change hands 13 times between the Scots and the English.

From the 16th century until 1836, Berwick was an independent borough, neither in Scotland nor in England. It’s ambiguous status led to the popular story that, through administrative error, the borough is still at war with Russia! Though its role as a garrison town ended in the 1960s, historic barracks are a reminder of Berwick’s military past.
