The Old Smiddy is a former Blacksmiths that forms part of a 165 year old building located in the beautiful village of Crossford, a mile west of Dunfermline (18 miles from Edinburgh city centre). Dunfermline is Scotland's old capital city and in the Abbey many of Scotland's kings and queens are buried, the most famous one being Robert The Bruce. Dunfermline is also the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie.

We thoughtfully refurbished the workshop in November 2017 to create a unique self catering space which has been completed to very high standard, which includes the full restoration of the blacksmiths wall where the original tethering rings are still attached to the wall.

Nice location ,the village of Crossford is only a mile from the city of dunfermline , where there is plenty of local history, visiting the Abbey , the museum and the lovely pittencrief park is a must. The old smiddy was very comfortable , very...More

About the neighbourhood
Although just 18 miles away from the centre of Edinburgh, Crossford is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is within a 5 minute drive to the beach at the beautiful coastal village of Limekilns where you will also find excellent dining facilities. The beautiful historic villages of Charleston and Culross (pronounced Kooris) are a short drive away and the picturesque, famous Fife East Nuek fishing villages are within easy reach.

If we are available we are happy to pick guests up from the local train stations in either Dunfermline or Inverkeithing or if visiting Edinburgh during your stay, again if we are available, we can drop you off in Inverkeithing where the train will take you straight into Edinburgh City Centre in 25 minutes.
How to get there
Crossford is just over a mile outside Dunfermline. Inverkeithing rail station is also 10 mins away by car and this station is on the main Scottish east coast train line from which you can easily access Edinburgh, Glasgow Perth, Dundee Aberdeen and Inverness as well as England. Excellent road links mean that Edinburgh airport is just 15.5 miles away via M90. There is also an excellent national bus service which stops close to the property that will also allow you to explore the country with ease.
