About the neighbourhood
Shagawa Lake is a beautiful lake just on the outskirts of Ely, Minnesota. It is known for it's excellent fishing. It is part of a chain of lakes that includes Burntside Lake. Ely, Minnesota is consistently rated as one of the 'coolest' small towns in America, and is well-known for its blueberry festival, the International Wolf Center, the National Bear Center, as well as being the gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Ely boasts a wide range of restaurants, craft and antique shops, a golf course and more. Ely is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Tower Minnesota, the Soudan Mine Park and Lake Vermillion, as well as Bear Island State Park and many other prized Minnesota destinations.
Getting around
You will have access to the 14 foot aluminum fishing boat, which you can use to go around the lake and park at the various public and private docks. Semer Park has a public dock where you can park your boat or the boat provided (or the canoe). The public boat landing is just off of Pioneer road. In either case, you can park your car in the public lot. Alternatively, if you enjoy walking, it is perhaps a 15 minute walk to downtown Ely. If you have a bike or one of those electric scooters, you can zip around town in a jiffy. The Grand Ely Lodge dock is just a couple of minutes away, and if you want to have breakfast or supper there, they certainly will be happy to let you park at their dock.
