Beautiful scenery, 360 Degree views, as every wall has 2 windows with a view! Simple, comfortable and cozy surroundings. Enjoy the sunset each night and the night sky with a spectacular vantage point for star gazing. Opportunities to walk, jog, bike, kayak, canoe, bird watch, collect beach glass, nature photography and more, just steps from your door.
If you get up early enough you have a different set of views to enjoy, as the watermen begin bringing back some of their days catch, and the water glistens as the sun begins to rise. Every window offers a different view, depending on the time of day. Even thunderstorms are a sight to behold, and you can do so safely in the screened in porch out front.
Huge yard that reaches all the way to the BAY, with a huge fire pit, benches and chairs to enjoy the view. You can play badminton, bocci, horseshoes, fly kites, take a dip in the bay with one of our floats or just sit by the bay, watching the sunset and the cruise ships pass by. During the day, sit and watch the nesting ospreys near the front of the property. Plenty of outdoor space and seating. Front dock with a ladder and small boat lift for putting your small craft into the Honga River, so bring your kayaks and canoes! There is also a public dock for your larger watercraft.
Kitchen herbs for your cooking pleasure are right outside your door. Within walking distance of crab picking houses for FRESH just picked crab for your culinary creations. Or just buy or catch fresh crabs to cook your way, we provide the crab steamer and two small crab pots/traps for you to try your luck with crabbing right from our dock!
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AT HOOPERS ISLAND BAYSIDE HAVEN?
As we strive for the Bayside Haven to be a truly 'get away from it all' location, we do NOT provide internet access nor cable TV. We do have plenty of DVDs and local & network TV stations. We have central AC, a ceiling fan, along with window shades (which you WILL need as we get a lot of wonderful sunshine all year long). Eight windows for catching the breezes, which are plentiful.
If you want to stay connected, you must bring your smart phone and/or patronize either the Hoopers Island General Store (formerly Island Pride) or Old Salty's to use their internet. But really...traveling out here encourages you to unplug for a little while, enjoy the scenery, the wildlife and the simplicity...the sunsets are amazing, you may notice others pulling out their chairs around 'sunset' time up and down the bay, as they all admire the wondrous views, the ships going by, and the fabulous birds flying by or swimming in the water . We often have our neighbors over and enjoy it together. Old Salty's is our local (within walking distance) seafood restaurant, where you can meet the locals and the folks that drive from all parts of the Eastern Shore to eat here.
We have crisp cool 100% Cotton linens, organic and/or made in the USA when we can find them. We use steam to clean soft surfaces (pillows, mattresses, cushions, etc.) between guests, to keep down the allergens and just to offer you a comfortable stay. All bedding are encased in bug proof, allergen free materials. We are picky about where we stay, and apply these standards to our vacation rentals as well. Sorry, we do not allow pets of any kind.
Although we are surrounded by water, there is NO typical beach experience. Swimming in the bay is NOT for everyone, although many do cool off using our floats. The waterways are ideally enjoyed by paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skis, etc.
You can rent kayaks/canoes/bikes or go on a charter fishing boat tour, or just a scenic tour, right on the island. The land is flat, perfect for biking or going for a long walk from bridge to bridge. We will send you a list of outfitters when you book.
NO SMOKING/NO PETS for the comfort of our guests and ourselves.
TRASH REMOVAL not provided as we are in a rural area, you can choose to either pay $25 for removal or bring it with you when you leave. Your choice :) We will refund the fee if you bring the trash home with you.
We are NOT child proofed, please bring a 'pack and play' if you have little ones, and be aware it is UP on 2nd Floor.

This place was truly breathtaking. The drive from Cambridge, alone, is worth the trip. I was competing in an Ironman triathlon, and this place was easily one of the best finds. There's a fantastic restaurant right down the road, and an old, country store that has everything you'll need.
The house itself was not just comfortable, but also cute.
From the layout to the the views to the bayside firepit to the 200-year old churches nearby to the history of the town--
You'll need to come back just to remind yourself it's real.
Get ready for an island getaway...from it all.

I loved the peace, beauty, food, vineyards, history, wildlife and comfort of this magical place!
Memories of the peace, beauty and comfort of Fishing Creek, Maryland and of the sparkling, colorful Queen Anne Cottage that is Hoopers Island Haven warm my cold winter days! If I could, I'd return this minute to the Honga River sunrises and the Chesapeake Bay sunsets! The sweetly appointed and fully equipped studio and its generous hosts are delightful. The crab and oyster boats and their crews, the ospreys and herons, the historical parks, wildlife refuges and bike trails add adventure. The restaurants, vineyards enhance all the pleasure!
My advice to my friends: "Go! You will love it!"

Quaint, with creative touches
We came to this historic area to do some fishing. The house was well equipped with emphasis to detail. A great deal of creativity is evident once you step inside. You find yourself noticing the little things that make it an enjoyable stay. The town folks are very friendly. Everyone will give you advice if you ask. The bay views are fantastic. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Thank you for being such easy guests, and the kind words, I love finding and creating the decor for a fun, relaxing stay. We agree, the Island residents are not only very friendly but also helpful neighbors. We're glad you had such success with your fishing, we hope you come back again soon, the fall is lovely too, especially with the fire pit out back!

About the neighbourhood
Once you leave Rt. 50, you will pass the newly opened, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Park and the Wildlife Refuge. A few miles later, you will cross over the bridge to Hoopers Island, you will be treated to picturesque views of fishing boats in the water, docks on both sides, cozy, charming and quaint Island homes, crab and oyster 'houses' where you can pick up the 'the days catch.' Water, water, everywhere, passing by Hoopers Island General Store and Old Salty's, the main establishments on the Island. Be sure to stop in and check them both out. You will also see more wildlife, as there are several Osprey nests, one next to our property! Everyone is pretty friendly, sharing their favorite tips for crabbing/fishing, etc.
