Peaceful
The location overlooking the lake is idyllic. Watching the wildlife so close up.Very reasonably priced and you have all the amenities you need.You have the choice of cooking yourself or taking advantage of just walking down the road to a good choice of places to eat.The owner is very friendly she doesn't bother you but just pops in to make sure there is nothing you need. Great stay looking forward to doing it again.

Splendid Location for a Relaxing Holiday
My husband and I booked the Lakeside House for four weeks during August and we were joined by two friends pat way through. My husband is a recreational fisherman and this property was ideal for him. He and our friends could fish from the wall surrounding the property, which they frequently did when the weather was good, which was for most of our stay.
The location is good for walking to the three local restaurants, walks through the Troncais forest, and drives of no more than 30 minutes to various chateaux, further restaurants and places of interest.
The owners, Angie and John, were so very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much for them. We would certainly recommend the property.

What a divine tranquil view over the lake
This is the ideal place if you want peace and quiet. Lovely walks around the lake and even better if you are a fisherman. Perfect for anyone that likes walking, running or biking (off road) but is not looking for challenging terrain. The house itself is very clean and perfect for 4. The owners are very helpful and pleasant.

Beautiful location
Very comfortable accommodation in stunning surroundings, resident herons and kingfisher on the lake.Hosts Angie and John very helpful with local knowledge. Secure parking on driveway. Good bar and restaurant within 5mins walk. Plenty to do ,walks, fishing and cycling .

Just the tonic required to recharge the batteries!
We have just come back from a 2 week stay in this stunning location.
The apartment was clean and comfortable and offered everything we needed. The hosts were friendly and welcoming and on hand to assist with anything that was required.
The views over the lake from the lounge / balcony were beautiful and we spent every evening watching the amazing sunsets and stars.
The wildlife was fabulous to watch - herons, swallows, bats, kingfishers, coypu as well as the fish.
Our teenage girls loved the tranquility of the place, and the scenery, however, if your tastes are for more nightlife then this isn't the place for you.
We swam daily in the warm waters of the neighbouring lake at St Bonnet, and enjoyed trips and visits to local medieval chateaus and towns.
We are planning a return visit within the next year!

Tranquil Apartment
This unpretentious, large and airy lakeside apartment is comfortably furnished in traditional French style and is situated in the very heart of the Troncais forest. Despite the remote location, it is readily accessible by good metalled roads with restaurants within walking distance and supermarkets only a few miles away by car. The local lakes are popular with anglers and the apartment is an ideal fishing base, a permit is required. As a retired couple we stayed 4 weeks at the property in June/July 2016 with the aim of relaxing, enjoying the rural ambience and exploring the local villages. We were not disappointed.
We particularly enjoyed the stunning views across the lake with its ever changing reflections and colours. We spent hours, with binoculars to hand, as the resident family of herons fished in the shallows, swallows swirled above and the many woodland birds and butterflies flittered along the bankside. Large carp came to snuffle along the shallows below the balcony and every evening a family of copyu criss-crossed the lake as they foraged. We also enjoyed walking along the numerous rough forestry tracks and waymarked woodland paths though we met scarsely another soul along them in our entire stay.
Our English hosts, John and Angie, were particularly welcoming and friendly and went out of their way to involve us in local events.

Exactly what we were looking for
Our plan was to immerse ourselves in the true France. This was achieved! John and Angie are wonderful hosts; and thank goodness for us! Without their French language skills we would still be lost.
The apartment is as described; sitting right on a fishing lake. It was a beautiful setting.
We enjoyed a wonderful holiday and did some great exploring - the rental car was essential.

The property is situated in the hamlet of;Troncais;, which is a focal point of this vast forest, due to its association with the historically ancient Forge which produced the steelwork for the renowned ;Eiffel Tour
Troncais oak is sent to make barrels for cognac and fine Bordeaux wines because of the good quality wood.
Originally the forest was planted by instigation of Jean-Baptiste Colbert,
( a Chateau can be visited nearby at Ainay-le-Vielle which contains souvenirs of Colbert ), minister for. Louis X1V of France, to produce oak for ships of the French navy.
Within a few minutes walk you will find an excellent, cafe, bar and restaurant
The region offers many activities. There are water sports:- at the sandy lake beach of St.Bonnet Tronçais, lake Pirot. And Etang de Goule. swimming, sailing, canoeing and kayaks, windsurfing, boating, ......fishing in rivers or well stocked lakes. ( need licence ). can be purchased at the cafe ,2 minutes walk. (day or week.) Tennis, horseriding, golf, cycling (electric bikes for hire ) electric boats on the canal. Archery . Even flying lessons can be obtained at Lurcy-Levis. and many pleasurable walks in and around the forest.
For serious ;twitchers;, you will love to see and hear birds like the Hoopoe, In spring the distinctive ; oop oop; can be heard all around the forest.
Other birds to be seen include ,golden oriole,turtle doves,green,and middle spotted woodpeckers,their pecking reverberates in the forest .red start,firecrest,wood warblers,
Honey buzzards,short-toed eagle,black and red Kites,and many more.
Other cultural activities include, visits to museums, Abbeys ( Souvigny ; Noirlac) Chateaux (over 500 ). Theatres, music festivals, fireworks, ;son et lumier;, winetasting, arboretums, beautiful gardens to visit, and organised forest nature walks.
Importantly, some of the local cusine must be sampled.
The courtiers of Louis XIV used to say,.......; Only the dishes of Versaillies surpass the dishes of Troncais
Bustling french markets every day of the week in towns and villages, ( true flavour of countryside living ! )
Brocantes, held throughout the summer , ( for the ardent bargainhunter ! )
For those who prefer the faster pace, there are the Car and Motor cycling races at ; Magny Cours , and Superbike Championships are held. Also a G T circuit at ;Lucy- Levis;; to International ;Go Karting', at St. Armond Montrand. There are numerous activities through the summer. At St. Bonnet Troncais, The Ferme de ; etang;, organised events are held.
Adventure parks, with zoo animals, all within reasonable distance. Paris and Disneyland, Puy-de-dome.( area of the volcans )
Getting around
Being a large country area ,with all its `treasures`, you are better able to have a car. Having said that the area is great for cycling( not too challenging !) for exploring around . Very safe and many French enjoy cycling.There are fun double bikes to hire locally.
If you wish to arrive by Train, we will pick you up from St.Amand Montrond Station and return, at the finish of your holiday.( minimum fuel charge)

How to get there
Check Ferries ..for Summer deals.The airport at Clermont Ferrand is only just over an hours easy drive. If coming from the North or Ferryports there are numerous places to stop or stay . Chatre cathedral is an interesting stop and about halfway .The driving is usually very easy even with holiday traffic and mostly dual carriageway with some motorway.
