About the neighbourhood
Stone Mountain once owned by the Venable Brothers, as a “memorial to the Confederacy “ the park officially opened April 14, 1965 - 100 years after Lincoln's assassination, though it was already been in use for a few years. What is less noteworthy about the history of Stone Mountain is that it is the symbolic birthplace of the modern Ku Klux Klan. Original Klan founded in 1865 had largely been stamped out by the mid-1870s after Reconstruction.....
