Lakeland treat!
Lovely apartment decorated to a very high standard. Wendy and Lee couldn't have been more helpful providing loads of information about the surrounding area and activities on offer. The apartment itself is very cosy with lots of books and games (and Netflix!) if you fancy a lazy day staying in or if the weather isn't so great. The optional (offsite) spa package is well worth it. Thanks both for ensuring our stay was restful and enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Like a flat from a magazine
The flat was spotless and beautifully decorated. Like a room in a magazine. The cupboards were stocked with the essentials and the bathroom had plenty of towels. The bed was very comfy and the view from the window in the lounge is lovely. Overall a great place to stay.

Quiet and relaxing
lovely break we’ve just had , at River Vista Retreat aren’t we glad , we chose that lovely place to stay …. though the sun didn’t come out to play ! The apartment we found was first class … we hope we don’t break a glass ! Home from home and comfy too … everything was sparkling and new !! Wendy and Lee who are the hosts …. Really made you feel welcome they were not ghosts … To check to see that things were fine , they even left us a bottle of wine ! When you visit River Vista Retreat, like us we know you’ll be in for a treat ! So to everyone we highly recommend this place!! IT WILL LEAVE BIG SMILES UPON YOUR FACE !!!

Beautiful Romantic Apartment
Had a wonderful stay in this amazing apartment the place is gorgeous and so peaceful with amazing views over the river I could of spent the whole time looking out at. The apartment had everything we needed plus more its kitted out to a high standard we loved cuddling up on the amazing sofa watching movies on the big TV and the sonos sound system sounds amazing too. It's not often I wright reviews but this is well deserved. Thankyou Lee and Wendy for an amazing stay you are both great. Regards David and Rowan

Relaxing and Picturesque
Cannot fault River Vista Retreat or our hosts Lee and Wendy! Such a beautiful and tranquil apartment in such picturesque surroundings. The pictures of River Vista Retreat were good but the reality was even better. A very well equipped kitchen with everything anybody could need or want. From the moment we went through the front door the word to describe the apartment was WOW!! The bedroom was beautifully warm and comfortable. The bed was enormous! We have never slept so well. The sitting room was extremely cosy and relaxing. The window seat was so inviting to watch any wildlife about. Complete with a bird book and set of binoculars. A great touch. A fabulous welcome gift from Lee and Wendy was also very generous and again a nice touch. Lee and Wendy were in touch everyday to make sure everything was ok. They suggested several places for us to visit. We will have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending River Vista Retreat to anybody. We will certainly be booking another break ourselves.

Luxurious modern flat in a great location
This is a brilliant flat. It's clean, modern, stylish and has a good view of the river. It's got all the mod cons. There's plenty to do locally—the steam railway and woodland walks are on the doorstep, and it's a great location to explore the lakes in general. The hosts were very friendly, helpful and quick to respond. No complaints at all. I plan to come back some time for a longer stay.

Beautiful, roomy, comfy, quiet apartment, well located for Lake District/Cumbria exploration
We LOVED Lee and Wendy's River Vista Retreat apartment and can't rate it highly enough. It's a beautiful, large, comfortable, impeccably furnished and equipped space, with lots of daylight, in a perfect location (near the south end of Lake Windemere) from which to explore Cumbria and the Lake District. There wasn't anything we needed/wanted that wasn't supplied -- large bathroom, hair dryer, Netflix on a large screen (and cozy blankets for watching), free parking, washer/dryer, dishwasher and plenty of dishes, utensils and pots and pans, lovely linens on the king-size bed, even facecloths (which are rarely provided) -- and the area is quiet and felt quite safe. It's within walking distance of one end of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite heritage railway line, which you can take, in restored carriages pulled by steam engine, to the southern end of Lake Windermere. Lee and Wendy readily shared their wealth of great information and ideas about things to do, see and try. We felt it was excellent value for the cost. It's a special place and would be nice for celebrating a special occasion, but it's affordable enough for any time.

A great break away
A great break in the lakes. Away from the bussle of the normal towns but within striking distance should you choose. Situated a couple miles south of lake Windermere in a quiet modern newly built flats. The flat itself is a very clean, modern flat with great amenities. To the rear side of the flat runs the river Leven. This is a great quiet centre for your base to explore both the busy and quieter side of the Lakes. The flat does have steps up to it so mobility is important. Give this holiday base a try and I’m sure you will have a great time.

Fab modern appartment by the river
Had a wonderful stay . Great location to explore the Lakes and walk and cycle from. Had a nice meal and drink at the local pub. Really well equipped with some nice touches. Will definitely be coming back .

About the neighbourhood
Nestled in the Leven Valley, Backbarrow is a great place to explore the Lake District National Park, the Cumbrian Coast and even The Yorkshire Dales National Park. Within walking distance you will find The Lake District Motor Museum, the historic Haverthwaite Railway Station and The Cliffhanger Escape Rooms. A short drive away is Beatrix Potter’s Hilltop, Hawkshead village and Windermere Cruises. Set within the historic grounds of a former Ironworks, the attractive apartments are complemented by private parking, spacious shared grounds and beautiful views of the river Leven and waterfalls. Within a 5 minute walk there is a lovely riverside bar and restaurant.

BUS STOPS Services are limited but there are Bus stops on the A590 in Backbarrow (use underpass – see Staying Safe Advice) Bus Services no 6 for Barrow and Windermere and no X6 for Ulverston and Kendal. There is also a bus stop at Newby Bridge where there are more regular services. TAXI NUMBERS Please be aware that there is no local taxi in this area, so it is ideal to pick a taxi from the direction you are wanting to go. Numerous local taxi companies contact details are available with in the welcome book that is provided ahead of your stay.

How to get there
If you are arriving via car and have a GPS / SatNav system in the car, please use: LA12 8RF. Otherwise, from the M6 take junction 36 and follow the A590 towards Barrow. After about 12 miles you will pass through Newby Bridge, continue on for around 1 mile and look for signs to the Lakeland Motor Museum on the right. Turn right and follow the road round past the museum and round to the left. Then turn right and go under the skywalk bridge between The Whitewater Hotel and Cascades Spa, pass over the old stone bridge and follow the road round to the left. Continue on for approx. 300m and turn left into the Ironworks complex. See google maps or the google search engine and search for River Vista Retreat, Backbarrow.
