Here, in Nuthatch Cottage in three acres of gardens and mixed woodlands of a Victorian Hunting Lodge you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the peace & quiet of undisturbed nature. Our cosy three bedroom cottage for up to five people has a stone terrace facing south down the Irfon Valley and the mixed woodland is alive with birds. Beyond the shrubs and flowers of the formal garden are acres of ancient oak and other native trees. The garden is framed on one side by the distant backdrop of the Irfon Valley and on the other a network of small paths leads through the garden and up into the woods. Some of the paths are cut into the rock itself and provide spectacular views down the valley. An exciting place to explore for both young and old. The woods are home to many birds and animals including greater and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Owls, Nuthatches, Siskins, squirrels and – if you are lucky a field mouse or a badger. Just below Cwm Irfon is the river Irfon after which it is named. The use of the cottage includes discounted access to fishing in the River Irfon. The River Irfon winds its way down the wooded valley directly below your cottages cutting many large and small pools into the slate rock. One of these, the 'Washpool' is only a few hundred metres away and provides (on warm days!) a natural swimming pool surrounded by mountains and forests. Our nearest town is Llanwrtyd Wells, it is three miles down the valley along the River Irfon. Here there are a diverse range of facilities including restaurants, real pubs, an excellent Tourist Information Centre and shops providing all of the basic necessities. See us on Facebook! More

Our 5th stay in the Cwm Irfon valley. 4th time at Cwm Irfon Lodge. Which pretty much says every thing you need to know. Your hosts Gyles & Karin are always available to help out. The perfect place to detox from whatever :-)

we love it here very much, very tranquil and excellent wildlife, especially the birds. Behind every corner something different with breadthtaking views. So many things to explore. And Karin and Gyles are the most welcoming and helpful hosts you can imagine.

About the neighbourhood
On the edge of the Cambrian Mountains, up the Irfon Valley three miles from the nearest village. Quiet and undisturbed by traffic or human voices (but sheep and birds are quite noisy!) Surrounded by mountains with grazing welsh mountain ponies and wild Welsh bog Oak, the river Irfon a few hundred meters away and a large south facing garden below the cottage terraces with beautiful views down the Irfon Valley. The valley is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an otter and will certainly see Red Kites and a variety of other hawks or other birds. The area is ideal for walking, mountain biking, walking or just sitting by the river and enjoying the sounds, sights and peace and quiet. Our guests have told us that the woods with their twisted oa...
