Such a beautiful house perfect for hosting, plenty of space for bigger and smaller groups for more privacy.
The location of the house could not be better, spectacular views of the beach and a lovely double layered terrace to sit and look out. All the bedrooms had their own bathrooms very comfortable and homely. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to visit Barmouth!

Fabulous location
We had the pleasure of a short break here in October. Fabulously welcoming, homely, comfortable & spacious accommodation. It was perfect for our family of four, close to everything Barmouth has to offer and provided us the best panoramic views

Our cup runneth over!
We had such an amazing time at Bod Idris and really hope to come again. There was ample room and ample to do. We felt instantly at home and comfortable. The house is well kitted out with everything you'd need to cater for extended family coming together as we were. We didn't turn on the telly once as 'Barmouth TV' entertained us - the views from the windows of the ever-changing estuary view are fabulous. Even on a grey day, we were content. But in the sunshine, we could soak up Barmouth vista from the terrace outside in comfortable chairs, dining al fresco or in the swing seat. We didn't use the cars once either. In our week-long stay, there was plenty to do just walking from the door and no two days felt the same. We swam on the little beach near the house and from the big beach with the exciting waves. We walked up the estuary and along the panorama path. Barmouth town is lovely with it's own micro-brewery and many eateries or places to explore. Thanks too to Nick for being around if needed and informative about the house and the area. All in all, a wonderful holiday!

Beautiful view, comfortable stay
If you are into Scandi minimalism Bod Idris is not for you. But if you want spacious, comfortable accommodation with original features and a fantastic view then this is the place. Within walking distance into the town itself for fantastic bars and places to eat as well as a beautiful beach.
We loved it even if the steps up to the property gave our geriatric legs a real workout

Not as expected
We chose Bod Idris because the photos looked great and the reviews were good. We booked for a family of 5, plus grandparents and a dog. Upon arrival first impressions were good, Nick was at the property and he gave us some helpful tips about the area. We soon realised the property was not as we thought it would be. I can say the beds were comfortable, the showers had plenty of hot water, the front views were stunning and in a good location but the house was not clean! Some wardrobe doors didn’t close, the skirting and plug sockets were dirty and sockets loose from the wall. Wall paper peeling off in most rooms, exposed wires in the shower room, a ripped sofa and chairs with the bottom hanging out and grimy arms, we certainly didn’t sit in them. The lounge sofas were fine. The beautiful Victorian front door hadn’t been repaired so was difficult to open and close without shoving it, thankfully we didn’t need to escape in a hurry! Everything was old and tired. Water marks running down the curtains, drawers which needed hoovering out. As for the outside area, the bench was so warped and old you couldn’t sit and eat comfortably at it, the metal set was ok but a bit rusty, weeds shooting up from the patio. We have renovated 3 period properties in the past, they need constant maintenance, we expect there to be cracks here and there but there’s no excuse for dirtiness, especially when renting it out! It needs a deep clean! I have taken photos as proof of what has been mentioned above. We paid more than we would usually for a break away because we wanted our stay to be special. Bod Idris could be very special but sadly it wasn’t.

This is a correct but exaggerated view that is written to imply a dangerous and dilapidated property. It is not. I refute the statement that it is not clean but accept that if you are looking for pristine decor with silk curtains then this place is not for you. As a previous guest has commented “Whitewashed modernistic perfection it’s is not but that just adds to the charm of the place”. There are cracks and chips and there are things that need to be done. Being popular makes it increasingly difficult to attend to all matters instantly but the comments given are noted and will be attended to as and when time permits.

What a view
As a group of 8 people we were all accommodated very comfortably in this lovely house. The views from the front windows are breathtaking.
The beds were comfortable and the rooms were large so there is plenty of space for everyone.
There are quite a few steps up to the front door so not so suitable if you have mobility issues. A very short walk into Barmouth town centre and a very short walk to the beach.
Excellent communication from Nick.
All in all a very good place to go in a large group and very conveniently located.

Perfect accommodation in perfect location
The space and facilities at Bod Idris more than met our needs. The shower rooms were high quality and the beds the most comfortable were have experienced.
The location and views out across the estuary to the mountains were everything we hoped for and more with access to the small park area and beach just across the road.
The communication and information from the property owner and host was first class and we can’t wait to visit again.

Idyllic relaxing break
An amazing property with a homely feel and beautiful views over the sea. The property’s location is perfect, a short walk to the town with an almost private beach just across the road. The amenities were perfect and we felt very at home from the moment we arrived. Nick is a perfect host, providing local knowledge and advise on the best places to visit during our stay, we will definitely be back!

Bod Idris
Just spent a week in Bod Idris, a lovely victorian house with lots of original features. The kitchen had everything you needed, the water was really hot (not always the case in places we've stayed before) and the beds were comfortable.
Nick, the owner was friendly and helpful and answered any questions we had, even coming round once (never had this happen before).
But the best thing was it felt like our home.

Bod Idris is ideally located on the outskirts of Barmouth. As such it avoids the noise of the town but benefits from easy access to both the town, the countryside and walks on foot from the house over the mountains or across the famous railway bridge.
Parking is available in a layby on the opposite side of the road
In season overnight parking (6pm - 8 am) is allowed on single yellow lines on the road outside the house.
A private car park available for public use - subject to a small fee is within 150m of the property.
Accommodation is to a high modern standard and often commented on by guests - one child even suggesting it was better than home !
A sandy beach below the house provides for endless enjoyment
Originally a private hotel, Bod Idris has been extensively refurbished throughout to provide two modern clean spacious apartments with a high regard to comfort and the needs of those pursuing an active or restful holiday.
Spectacular views of the Mawddach estuary and Cader Idris range are available from each front facing room. Numerous walks are possible both 'on the flat' by crossing Barmouth railway bridge and onwards towards Dolgellau along a disused railway line now opened as a cycle/pedestrian path known as the 'Mawddach Trail'. Alternatively mountain routes above Barmouth, including the famous 'Panorama Walk', can be easily reached from the door
