Domaine Coutelier is situated on the old 17th Century Devon Vale farm, set on a plateau between Devon Valley and Devon Vale, which was split in the 1950’s into smaller portions. The Domaine consists of a four hectare plot. Grapes have been grown on this land for decades.
Visible to the East are the mountains of Simonsberg, Groot Drakenstein, Jonkershook, Stellenbosch, Helderberg with the Hottentots –Holland to the South, Paarl Rock and surrounding mountains to the North East, Durbanville Hills and Cape Town Suburbs to the North West.
Domaine Coutelier is within the Bottelary Road ward of Stellenbosch, although Wine of Origin Stellenbosch is indicated on the labels (and Coastal region for the Durbanville Hills wines).
The Domaine offers great walks through vineyards directly from the property. Wine tasting is on offer at the Domaine and all guests are offered a free wine tasting.
For keen mountain bikers, the Domaine is within the heart of the Bottelary Hills MTB Trails where there are dedicated, well-marked routes. The rolling hillsides feature vineyards, farmland, conservation areas and trails comprised of farm roads, jeep tracks and numerous single tracks. While never too technical there are challenging climbs and a variety of distances on offer for riders of all fitness levels. A Mediterranean climate prevails providing cold wet winters and hot dry summers.
For Golfers, the property is a mere 2 kilometres from Devon Vale Golf Course.
The Domaine is 15-minutes from the heart of the historical town of Stellebosch with great bars and restaurants.
A 35-minute drive to Cape Town gives makes our Domaine an ideal location for traveller’s, pleasure seekers and explorers alike.
After booking in February 2021 and recieving several confirmations of my booking I arrived at the place only to be told that there was an overbooking (strangely the other booking made some 5 months later than mine is the one honoured - probably because it was for 5 nights not 2). The owner was not interested in my problem - I was there for a wedding that evening and the next day just close by and was quite rude in saying that it was for me to find alternate accomodation. The worst accomodation experience of my life.

How to get there
-From the N1 take exit 39 onto the R304 towards Stellenbosch;
-At the first traffic light turn right onto the Bottelary Road, which is at the Koelenhof crossroads, not the winery, just before the Caltex filling station;
-Take the first left into the road leading to Devonvale Golf Course.
-Go past the golf course entrance and after roughly 3 km from the Bottelary Road, the road will become a dirt track;
-Continue straight, after a further 200m the road splits, take the right fork;
-After a further 800M take the steep dirt track on the right. It is opposite an electricity pylon;
-Follow the electric cables up the hill for 100m at which time you will see the winery on the right in the middle of the vines;
