Pretty Bad - Unless you like sleeping with mice!
GreenLagoon Arenal Waterfall Villas was probably a very nice place several years ago, however, and I’m really not sure if this is due to a management change or what, but it is now pretty bad. My family and I were there on our first rain forest vacation and the first trip to Costa Rica. When we first arrived it was dark and we were very tired, pretty much unpacked and crashed for the night. The next morning we woke up and found that some fruit we had bought was eaten by what appeared to be mice, great!! Next, we notice mice dropping leading to the back patio door and notice that the rear doors are not sealed, I mean at least a 2-3 inch gap on both sides of the sliding doors. At least now we know how they are getting in! It gets better, then when making our bed we notice one of our pillows appeared to be what looks like a mouse hotel, chunks of foam taken out of the pillow, an actual tunnel through the pillow itself, crazy right! I have pictures of all of this however it appears you cannot upload them anywhere. We went down and spoke to management, very nicely asked for a reduction in the price per night, flat out was told NO, he did offer to take care of a $44.00 dinner, awesome huh, considering we were charged over $300 a night! As you can imagine, the family did not sleep great at all the next 3 nights and our time there was not pleasant. In addition to the rodents, you will find rotten deck boards, large sections of tile missing from the pool, which is freezing and unusable, no cushions for the chairs (like shown in the pictures), etc. If I find a place to upload my pics I will upload them. As you probably can imagine, I would recommend you find somewhere else to stay!

Wonderful stay
It was a wonderful place, and location, very great views and facilities and commodities, only issue from our side is the absence of a DVD and TV in the house as indicated...nor Toaster, yet is it clearly expresssed. I understand the eco friendly concept, but a different issue is including the TV or VCR etc and not having them at all. The House is beaufitul, very confortable bathrooms and social areas, and the terrace is amazing.

A beautiful birthday trip
I actually visited GreenLagoon after finding a Getaway deal on Groupon that fit the timeline for the trip we were looking for. It was a bit of a drive to get to La Fortuna, but it was an adventure that was WELL worth it. We booked a 3 night stay with couples massage and a rainforest tour guided by Cristian Padilla. The property was beautiful, and we stayed in the villa with it's own private pool overlooking the valley next to La Fortuna. Waking up every morning looking out over the cloudy, lush valley was so peaceful and we made tea and coffee and sat on the porch looking for and listening to the wildlife before heading to the main building for fantastic breakfast cooked by Carmen. Our favorite part by FAR though was meeting Cristian. He shared our passion for wildlife and photography and we ended up going on a couple of tours through various locations, including the beautiful forest and natural springs on the GreenLagoon property to the base of the Arenal volcano and natural hot springs. The people at GreenLagoon are all local, and truly make you feel welcome and like family. At the end of the trip, we knew just about everyone that worked at the resort, and it was great seeing the same smiling faces everyday. The villas can sleep up to 6 people, so with a few friends, staying at this beautiful resort would be extremely affordable and we would highly recommend visiting GreenLagoon!

Fantastic experience, will go back again
We stayed at the villa on top of the hill. It was simply spectacular with all glass walls. The property is gorgeous, but most impressive was the staff. Christian our guide was amazing, so good with our two boys, almost felt like family. Danny at the front desk was patient, courteous and very helpful and the kitchen staff and cook were the best. Made us feel like we had our own private chef. We really enjoyed everything, and loved the hospitality. Highly recommended, can't wait to go back - thanks guys!

Pricey but gorgeous
My wife, our seven-year-old and I stayed for two nights in the lower of the property's two bungalows. We had a great time, and recommend GreenLagoon -- but it's not a bargain! Pros: - An incredibly lovely site, high above La Fortuna on the edge of the cloud forest next to Cerro Chato, the Arenal volcano's dormant little sibling. Wonderful views of the valley and the forest from the bungalow's small porch. - Right next to the La Fortuna river waterfall, well worth the short walk. With a 7-year-old we walked the longer, more rigorous trail to Cerro Chato for a little while (it's stunning and well-kept) but we had to turn around well short of the summit. Proximity of these trails means plenty to do without leaving the immediate area. - Very clean, spacious, and well-designed accommodations. A well-functioning kitchenette. - A very friendly and accommodating staff. Responded quickly to any requests. - Costa Rican-owned and very committed to environmental preservation. - Very quiet site. Lots of wildlife, especially an incredible variety of birds. Flourishing, flowery gardens. - The free breakfast was a hearty campesino feast. Cons: - Because a ridge lies in the way, you can't see the Arenal volcano from most parts of the property. You'll see it -- it's close, you'll hear it, and you're on the green (not ashen) side -- on the drive up to this remote site, and from the Cerro Chato trail. But not from your windows/balcony. - With taxes and high-season surcharges, we ended up paying about $400/night. Yikes. - You're high up in the mountains. That pool is cold! No hot springs in this part of the area. - We had dinner there because they said we could if we asked ahead of time, but it's clearly not what they usually "do." Service was friendly and it was delicious, but little things (silverware) slipped through the cracks occasionally. Maybe try one of La Fortuna's restaurants down the hill. - Remoteness means distance. You must have a car. The last 4km of road to the site means driving over a steep dirt road with some big rocks. (We did it in a compact Kia with no problems.) La Fortuna is a 10-minute drive. Tabacon hot springs is 20 min. The Lake Arenal dam is 25 min. The National Park entrance is 25-30 min.
