We love to support our guests' travel.

Wonderful Stay In Traditional Japanese House
We had a wonderful stay in Shofu-an. The location was excellent - within walking distance to many of the sites we wanted to see. The house is clean and well kept. The owners were very helpful throughout the whole booking process and were very generous to refund us a night stay when we were stuck in Tokyo during a typhoon. We would definitely recommend the house and would return again ourselves if we are in the area.

Cozy stay super close to Kiyomizu-dera temple
Wow, the experience was beyond impressive. The place was real cozy during cold nights we stayed. Heated floor in living area, bathroom, and bedrooms (the corridor was super cold but you can run). The house was spacious for 3 of us. Nicely kept and well renovated. We kept talking about how much we loved the place. It was also very convenient walk to Kiyomizu-dera temple. It basically is just off the street that leads to the temple....can't be more convenient.
They have complimentary coffee and tea in the house. They also have a nice size fridge if you need to stock up. The small electric cooktop was also great for making tea.
The only hiccup was the arriving experience. We tried to find the free taxi pickup location. It was really hard to find using google map when we got off Shinkansen on the Karasuma side (Kyoto tower side) because the pick up spot is on opposite side of the station, Hachijo side (we might have chosen the wrong side to exit). You basically have to cross the train tracks to get to the other side by crossing pedestrian bridge level (get on escalator on your left on Isetan side to the second floor) then get down onto street level and cross the street to MK taxi stand behind Ibis hotel. Once got to MK taxi, no one seemed to know about our reservation and made us wait in line with other passengers (about 15 minutes wait). We made it to the house and the taxi driver still didn't know that the ride was complimentary. The lady that waited for us at the house had to explain and they have to make a few phone calls before we can leave the taxi. It was time consuming but they were all really nice about it.
After all, it was a great experience !!

Beautiful place, tranquil neighbourhood
Post-booking service was excellent. Queries via email were answered promptly. A free taxi service was offered to and from Shofu-an from Kyoto Station on the first and last day. On arrival, Chiaki-san was on hand to give a tour of the place and provide insider advice on nearby amenities.
Place is located within a neighbourhood, and is very tranquil. Bedrooms are very comfortable, one modern and one traditional. The washroom is on the ground floor though, so do be prepared to walk downstairs should the call of nature strike in the night. Rooms are comfortably warm during winter though thanks to floor heating and air-conditioners. The washer cum dryer was a godsend.
The streets leading to Kiyomizu-dera as well as Sannenzaka, are practically a few minutes walk away, so Shofu-an is ideal for those wanting to explore the North Higashiyama temples, whether day or night. Took cabs to and from the shopping district and Kyoto Station - never had to wait more than 2mins for a taxi. If the travel focus is on experiencing Kyoto's culture and traditions, this place is highly recommended.

Cosy house for friends and family
We booked this house around 6 months before arriving and the hostes were so helpful with payment and giving directions on how to travel smooothly to the house. The house is perfect for a traveling company with 4-5 people and the house is located in a quiet area with about a 20 min walk to the nearest shopping street. We were a couple of friends who were traveling for 3 weeks so this place really helped us. We had a house with a washer for our clothes and living space where we could be together.
I recommend this place if you're visiting kyoto and want that traditional feeling and a great place to stay in.

Unrivalled excellence
4 adult members of my family and myself stayed at Shofu-An for a week the beginning of May. What a delightful property! Close to Kiamizudera and a short walk to Gion and surrounds. The location was excellent. Everything was provided at the Machyia and we were very comfortable. We loved our "Japanese roof-top beer garden" as we called it; assembling each late afternoon to recall our adventures for the day and plan the evening. Due to a mix-up with our booking, we had to vacate in a hurry but we were located in another delightful property belonging to the group near Karasuma Oike station. All done with the excellent help of the property owners. Would definately consider this property again and highly recommend it.

Excellent location.
This was a very lovely and tidy place to stay. Mariko made us so welcome and extremely helpful (a special thank you for helping us out on our last day). Great location to all the best sights in Kyoto.

Great spot
Great location in a quiet street. The building manager Mariko was fantastic and was so helpful. Our two teenage daughters loved the apartment as well. Nice to have some space after the confines of Tokyo.
Thoroughly recommended.

Travel back in time without compromising on modern comfort
We had a real good time in Shofu-an. Being located very conveniently to do a lot of sightseeing by feet and really dive into old Kyoto at times where most of the tourists are already gone. It's also good place for coffee-lovers as a Nespresso machine with free capsules is provided and this hidden gem is very nearby: http://www.arabica.hk/#cafe-kyoto
Mariko recommended us a very oishii oil-soba place 1 mins by foot, where we went back frequently.
It's definitely a perfect location, if you want to experience a traditional stay in a townhouse without having to compromise on modern comfort (two real beds, very nice bathroom). We enjoyed especially to have a living room with nice inside garden and balcony to hang out and recover from sightseeing. All of that for a more than reasonable price.
I would choose this property again any time!!

1000 yen.
