祇園のギャラリー街に佇む静かな町家
2週間ほど連泊で滞在しました。
祇園の古美術ギャラリーの立ち並ぶエリアにある町家です。
静かな通りですが、祇園の中心まで徒歩2分、高島屋まで徒歩10分、お散歩やグルメ、遊びにも至便です。
かの有名な「菱岩」さんから仕出しを取ったり、のんびり読書をしたり、自由に過ごせます。
祇園のすぐ裏ですから、ご近所から三味線や謡いのお稽古の音がふと聞こえてくるのも風情があり、
プチ京都暮らしを満喫しました。
仕出しの朝食も、和洋どちらも美味しかったです。

くつろぎやすい日本風の宿
素晴らしい1日をこの宿で過ごすことができました！この宿は日本の古い民家をリフォームしたもので、内装は文句なしでした。吹き抜けの天井、ステンドグラスなどがおしゃれでした。
ホコリひとつもなく、綺麗に清掃されていました。
古い箪笥を食器棚やテレビ台にリモデルされていたり、家具類にも細やかなこだわりが感じられました。
町家なのでどうしても寒さが気になるところですか、すべての部屋にエアコンがあり、また加湿器なども準備されていて、暖かく過ごすことができました。脱衣所にも暖房がついていたのには感動しました。
星6をつけたいところです！

Feel Immersed in Kyoto

Lovely & well positioned traditional house
This was a great place to stay, great location near to the subway & yet on a quiet street.
Very clean and good amenities.
Only 3 issues which would make this place 5 star if dealt with:
1.) The shower has a button which has to be pressed every minute when you use it to keep the water going. I understand that in Japan, people would quickly wash under shower & then have a bath, but for westerners visiting, I just want a nice shower in the morning & having to press the button drove me mad!
2.) The wardrobe in the bedroom with beds in it was locked up. So we had nowhere to store our luggage or hang clothes up. I don't understand why this was locked. We had to leave our cases on the floor, step over them & not hang our clothes up.
3.) The blinds in the bedrooms are very thin so the sunlight woke us up every morning at 5am as it was so bright.
These are minor issues that could be addressed easily & would make it perfect.

Hatoba-an
This is a well restored old Japanase House with modern ameneties. Our group are composed of 6 persons (4 adults and 2 children). Have so much fun and enjoyed our stay. Slept in futons and western beds. Very comfortable. Also, location is very convenient.

Wonderful restored machiya
Located in a great part of the Gion neighbourhood full of antique stores, yet very close to lots of restaurants and shops and tourist spots.
Hatoba-an has all modern amenities (except a sofa), nice beds and traditional futons, a small but usable kitchen and lovely bathroom.
Booking was easy, but get in early as it books out fast.

Great location
My family stayed in the Hatobaan Holiday Rental House for two nights in early February 2017. I had been given the code so that we could enter the house immediately at arrival then call the staff for checking-in. The staff spoke excellent English and the checking-in process was extremely smooth. The rental house was spacious, absolutely clean, and well-equipped with a range of modern facilities. I thought the house location was the biggest advantage as major attractions such as the Gion Shirakawa, the Pontocho area, Ichiriki Chaya, and the Kawaramachi station (for shopping) were all within 10 to 15-minute walking distance. A lot of restaurants and interesting shops could be found in this area. Inside the house, street noise was minimal at night, though minor noises probably from adjacent houses could be heard sometimes. It was understandable as the Machiya houses were so close to each other. Surely we had to control our noises at night lest affecting the neighbors. We had used the kimino wearing service and it was really convenient. After putting on the kiminos at our house, we could soon walk to the nearby historical areas! Perhaps the major problem was car parking. At the first night I parked my car at the car park (just required 1-minute walking) at the first junction of the avenue and the overnight charge was over 10k yen (well I could not read the Japanese pricing instructions but this amount was really unexpected)! In the second night I parked in a large basement carpark next to a subway station (near the Hotel Okura) and the overnight charge was 2k yen, though it needed a 10-minute walking distance from the Hatobaan. For its perfect location and comfortable room, I recommend the Hatobaan to small group or family travelers who are interested in the historic and charming Gion area.

Perfect stay

Excellent place for big group
This is a self sufficient Machiya. Location is great with less than 2 mins walk from subway. Serene surrounding in Gion district. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

beste Lage in Kyoto
Ein Haus so richtig zum Wohlfühlen und Entspannen. Hatoba an vermittelt einem das Gefühl in Japan zu wohnen, wie man es sich vorstellt. Das Haus ist sehr gut eingerichtet und hat eine tolle Atmosphäre. Man kann von dort aus sehr gut die Stadt zu Fuß entdecken - viele Sehenswürdigkeiten und zahlreiche typisch japanische Restaurants liegen in der Nähe. Nach einem erlebnisreichen Tag, freut man sich wieder auf "sein Zuhause" im Hatoba an. Wir würden wieder kommen!
