Avoid, avoid, avoid
First impression - building site. Jimmy met us and was very helpful at first. We had to pay cash upfront. I was expecting to pay by card, so Jimmy took us the bank to withdraw cash. I paid for 6 nights and 500 R “ Damages Deposit”. We only ended up staying 1 night because the noise from the building work was unbearable. On top of that, the apartment was pretty awful, as other reviewers have commented. You would not want to cook there. It was gross. We even had to go out and buy hand wash because none was provided. We couldn’t relax there. It is also some distance from the main drag, even though the photos lead you to believe it is near the action, so we we had to get taxis to and from the main waterfront area. We had an unpleasant dealing with Jimmy who gave us a partial refund of 2 nights and kept 50% of the damages deposit! Seriously there was nothing to break! He said it was our choice to leave and that we were lucky to get any refund at all as per the ‘manager’s’ policy and decision. I asked him to call the manager there and then but he would not, this is why I believe Jimmy to be the owner of the property. We left the next morning and checked into a 5 star hotel, which cost the same as staying place and is infinitely bette. We are now enjoying our holiday in Kuching. I urge anyone he has booked to stay here to seriously reconsider. This is the worst place I have ever stayed in, anywhere in the world.

Buyer beware
As a frequent traveller this is the 1st time I regret writing such a bad review. This property was booked because we needed space for 6 family members visiting for CNY reunion for 6 nights. The apartment is spacious, in a good location, clean and had good security - which was the reason we thought it would be a great idea for some family members of the group who are from overseas and visiting Kuching for the first time. This review is to highlight the experience I had with the agent, Jimmy. On my part I believe I had performed all that is required - on time payment (including RM500 refundable deposit), arriving on time to collect/return keys, cleaning up at check out, returning apartment in same condition as at point of check in. Jimmy, on the other hand, totally forgot the time he set for collecting the keys (this was resolved by me reluctantly agreeing to meet at a later time), did not issue an official receipt as promised and unlawfully withheld the deposit. Jimmy had casually remarked (which I had noted) when we met at check in that he was late because the previous person who booked the apartment had caused damage to the shower screen. When we checked in we found the shower screen was being held up in the frame by rubber bands. As it was a busy time for visiting during CNY, I informed this to Jimmy at check out of the issue and suggested that he should take a look as it can be dangerous. I also informed him the kettle had a bad smell which he should replace and the lift had jammed a few times we were there. Jimmy did not acknowledge anything until a few days later to request that I submit a ‘good’ review and that a score of 8.5 would be considered good. It went downhill from there as I must have rated the apartment just under 8. Jimmy texted to say he was ‘shocked the score had failed us miserably’ and a complaint was lodged to ‘investigate the derailment of the shower screen’. A few days later I followed up on the deposit refund - which he replied I needed to wait until ‘the end of the week when the key person is back on holidays’. At the end of the week I texted Jimmy but this time he blocked all calls, did not bother to reply texts except for one which said ‘Your deposit is put on hold pending investigation and assessment cost of damage to the derailment of the shower screen. No need to call me but you let u know asap’. 3 days later Jimmy texted ‘The contractors(3 different contractors) had assessed the shower screen and they concluded that its beyond repair no spare parts. To replace new incl labour charge is Rm 1300. Booking.com has instructed us to deduct from the security dep accordingly’ and he demanded payment from me. I contacted Booking.com who responded immediately but said they were sorry they were unable to help as there is no official receipt. I contacted the management office to ask about the owner (who’s bank account I paid to) but they replied to say the owner, Alain Leong Chaw Min, said to deal with Jimmy as he had authorised Jimmy. In my opinion the deposit has been unlawfully withheld and Jimmy has behaved in the most unprofessional and disrespectful manner.

TripAdvisor, It shows the inefficiency and unprofessional handling of your review team. This Alcinito guy DID NOT stay at my place at all. I wonder hiw can yoy allow any unscrupulous person to do a review without staying in the place mentioned. There is ni booking no to justify there. I WILL refer this matter to my lawyers.

Immediately adjacent to an active building site, far from clean, our one mistake in Kuching
We had a wonderful week in Kuching, with our only mistake being renting this apartment. 1. The website shows a seductive image of a glamorous riverside building. Sadly, this is an artist’s marketing rendition. Upon arrival you discover that the apartment is directly adjacent to an extensive active building site, mercifully quiet during the night, but not during the day. Most unfortunately this review format does not appear to allow sharing of photographs (I took many to show what is actually here). This misleading artist's impression should be replaced with an actual photo of the property. The area is about a 10 minute drive from Kuching waterfront. 2. You will need modest standards with regards to cleanliness to be able to enjoy staying here. Floors had only been superficially swept, with dust, crumbs and human hairs being particularly offensive given the no-shoes policy. There is also mold around sockets, layers of dust and crumbs on furniture surfaces and a filthy old bath mat. All of this is documented in photos. Having suggested to the excitable owner, in a calm and constructive way, that the apartment be cleaned, he visited while we were out and then made a threatening phone call saying that if we reported what we had found he would have us “blacklisted” – a spectacular failure to remember the difference between paying customer (whose money he already had) and service provider. Completely unacceptable – and remember, we had just arrived, at the very start of a holiday. On our return we found that an unlovely wad of matted human hair in the shower (an unpleasant surprise for my daughter on our first evening) had been removed, but there had been no attempt to clean floors or furniture surfaces (I took another set of photos and sent them to the owner). 3. We thought we might cook, but taking a look at the aged and oxidized appliances, decided not to (again documented with photos). 4. We gave up on the weak WiFi signal. 5. There is a pool apparently, but nobody in the family wanted to spend a moment longer than necessary in the building so we did not try this. 6. We were very glad to leave and put this experience behind us. Fortunately all other choices in Kuching were excellent or the holiday would have been thoroughly ruined. I took photographs and a video to show that the place was left at least as tidy as found on the first day. This is the first time in decades of travel that I have an experience like this.

Nice apartment just beside Sarawak River
I'd booked this apartment through Airbnb. The apartment was just 30 minutes from the airport. The owners - Jimmy and Susan, were on hand to receive us when we arrived. I'd communicated with Jimmy a few times before the trip. He was very prompt with his replies. The apartment was appropriately decorated but what's worth highlighting is the SPACE that it accorded my family. No claustrophobic hotel rooms. It's big enough to fit 6 adults. You can cook (We did not do that as there were so many places to eat in the heart of Kuching), and even do your laundry. The 3-bedrooms were no-frills but really, it was not too important for us as long as they are clean and the beds are comfortable. There is also not much of a view (Facing the pool and road) but once again, it was not important as we were out most of the time. Here's the other draw. The apartment was well located. You can take a stroll along the river and good food is just minutes away.
