Staying with Raghav and Shelja is like staying in an oasis of calm.
Udaipur is a busy noisy city, and the Fort is approximately 15 minutes drive outside of Udaipur. It's easy to get around using the Ola app (which is like Uber). Getting into the centre of Udaipur costs around ₹250. You have your own, completely separate, building which has a spacious bedroom, with lovely paintings directly on the wall, a small dressing area (where we stored our suitcases) and a large toilet and shower (with plentiful hot water, although be careful as water is scarce). There is also a private patio to sit out on.
They are a delightful family (two polite and friendly children). Raghav and Shelja both speak impeccable fluent English, and are incredibly helpful.
There is a small family temple on site, and the pujari comes every morning and evening, which gives a lovely shape to the day. My husband joined in this ritual most mornings.
All the family pets (dogs, cats, cockatoos) are friendly but not intrusive.
We chose to eat there most evenings. The food was home-cooked, plentiful, delicious, and nutritious. They catered to our special dietary requirements with care. There was a plentiful supply of drinking water available too.
Our thanks go to Chanda, Shiv, Narinda, Pushpa, and Mumta, who all looked after us really well.
Most of the time we had good Internet access, but at certain times it became less reliable (evenings, weekends and holiday times).
The bed initially felt hard, but our bodies soon adapted.
It was so lovely that we stayed there for four whole weeks. I would have loved to stay longer.
Raghav kindly let me ride on his polo ponies, which was a real treat.
Raghav and Shelja really went out of their way to ensure that we had a smooth holiday and we became very very fond of them! I hope it is the start of a lovely friendship.
I would highly recommend staying in this wonderful location, where you'll experience deep history that connects back for many centuries.
