Condo/Apartment
This beautifully remodeled two bedroom apartment is located in the heart of the walled city of Cartagena, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Immerse yourself in Cartagena's captivating and colorful history! Walk the wall, rub elbows with buccaneers or catch sunset along the ramparts. When you are good and tired, escape the vibrant streets and heat in your tranquil and cool apartment. The apartment is one of three (studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom), all located on the 2nd floor above a clothing shop on Calle de La Moneda in the historic Walled City of Cartagena. Upon entering the building you will walk up the stairs to a common hallway. Each apartment has its own secure door from this hallway. Please note that this unit does not have a balcony. The unit is perfect for one to six persons. The beds have new firm and very comfortable mattresses. A sofa bed in the common room can sleep two persons. An energy efficient mini split provides generous coolness on hot days. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a selection of pots and pans. Silverware, cups, plates, bowls and cooking utensils are also provided. Other amenities include large ceiling fans, cable tv, wireless internet access, tile throughout, wardrobe and a safe for valuables. The bathrooms are beautiful and modern. We even have hot water which is not normally available everywhere in Cartagena. In the hallway that accesses each apartment is a a cabinet which holds beach towels, extra soaps, extra toilet paper, extra pillows, and some tourist books and maps. Items available to guests will be stored on the left side of the cabinet. Yasmina, our caretaker, will be available to do laundry for guests at a charge of 10,000 pesos per load. (She will use a laundry bag labeled for each apartment making it hard to lose any of your laundry.) No laundry service on Sunday. The Walled City of Cartagena is simply a delight best experienced on foot. My recommendation is to wander, get lost (you really can't within the walls), and take in the wonderfully alive Caribbean atmosphere. Everything you need or desire is within short walking distance of your apartment. A large supermarket, Exito, is just around the corner from the apartment. The iconic ambassador of Colombian coffee, Juan Valdez, now adds his name to a chain of Juan Valdez Cafes, one of which is located just a block away. Beautiful colonial buildings and plazas, cafes, pastry shops, terrific restaurants and bars, museums, the wall itself and the fort - All are within walking distance of your apartment. Calle de la Moneda is typically busy and crowded during the day, but very tranquil and peaceful at night, as there are no bars and restaurants lining our street. It is not necessary, nor is it recommended to have your own car in the Walled City! Walking is definitely the way to explore the area. Taxis abound and are very economical. Be sure to negotiate. You should be able to get around the walled city and surroundings for about 5000 pesos during the day and 6000 pesos at night. Catch a romantic horse drawn carriage to take you back to the apartment at night. Benjamin, our delightful, inimitable and ebullient manager, will be on hand to assist you with any and all of your needs. He does not live on the property, but is always accessible. He knows Cartagena like the back of his hand. Note: For arrivals after 10pm, guests will need to pay Benjamin an additional $25 upon arrival. More

This apartment location is perfect. You do not need a car, and probably not even a taxi. The clock tower is within walking distance and you could book a tour right at the tower. Walking distance to Exito, a grocery store, and to ATM and...More

About the neighbourhood
San Diego is vibrant and lively during the day, but peaceful at night as there are no bars or restaurants around. This is perfect. People watch from your balcony during the day, and get plenty of tranquility at night. There is abundant shopping to be had in any direction from the apartment. An Exito supermarket is just around the corner and great restaurants, pastry shops and cafes abound in the area. Have some great street food while you're at it. The fruit and juices are exceptional. People are kind and friendly-with that wonderful easy going Caribbean island style. It's an incredible place. I love it!
Getting around
No doubt - the absolute best way to see the old Walled City of Cartagena is on foot. Everything in the old city is within walking distance. Taxis are also a convenient way to travel in the old city and surroundings. Be sure to negotiate your fare as you get in the taxi. Taxi fares are set by zone. You should be able to go most places in and around the old city and Bocagrande, Manga, Castillo San Felipe, etc. for 6,000 pesos during the day and 7,000 pesos or so at night.
