During the Riad's construction only traditional Moroccan materials were used, such as Tadelakt plaster (concrete hand polished stone), Bejmat (baked clay), all of which was hand produced individually using traditional tools producing a complete piece of artisan work. Relax and enjoy drinking cocktail's or mint tea in its lounges or by the swimming-pool; far away from the hustle and bustle of the streets in the heart of Marrakech Medina, with the backdrop of the magnificient snowed Atlas mountains, or watch a beautiful sunset over the city at the end of the day, the choice is entirely yours. Do not miss the romantic experience of arriving at night at the Riad and going up to your room with a traditional candle lighting the way, whilst in the morning awake to a wonderful breakfast which can be taken in any of the Riad's charming locations or terraces. If you wish so, book your evening dinner at the Riad, you will certainly not forget the experience of tasting wonderful original Moroccan food on the patio or one of the many terraces, all set in a complete relaxed atmosphere enabling you to forget about the worries of the world.

About the neighbourhood
Located in the Medina or ancient part of the city, in the Bab Doukkala neighborhood, Riad Shambala is built over a dwelling which is more than 100 years old, and has kept all the spirit and traditional materials that Riad's are known for. Locals such as Abdessamad, Ibrahim, the three Mohammads, Kamal, Youssef, and many others who worked with their own hands and basic traditional tools (not using a single electrical or mechanical tool apart from a workhorse & some benches) raised, covered with wood and natural materials (originally Moroccan) a beautiful space ready for your complete rest and relaxation. Upon entering into Riad Shambala, the guest immediately feels at home in the unique surroundings, this experience of entering into a Riad encourages reflection and relaxation. Riad Shambala offers to its guests, an oasis of beauty, peace and relaxation inside its walls, but once guests are outside the Riad they can immediately feel the spirit of the Moroccan people and the exciting smells and vibrant colours of such a magical city. All the furniture, lamps and decorations in the Riad are beautifully hand-crafted and completely hand made by the locals. In addition to the swimming pool in the patio, the Riad has a summer lounge, a winter lounge and five rooms with bathroom, all of which are different & unique from each other. Marrakech, whose original name in Berber is Tamurt n Akkuc, which means "Land of God", is one of most important cities in Morocco. Located 460 meters above sea level at the foot of the Atlas mountains, it has a population of over 1.5 million inhabitants. Marrakech today is one of the most visited city's in Morocco due to the immense tourist interest it generates. Its monuments act as a historical heritage to humanity, such as the well known and famous Square known as Plaza Djemaa el Fna Souk (the largest and most crowded in Africa) or by its popular market (souk) the largest in Morocco, as well as the big number of riads that it has. It is, together with Rabat, Meknes and Fez, one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. Founded in 1062 by Ibn Tasfin (considered to be Morroco´s father), he established the Almoravids Dynasty in Marrakech which at that time was considered the very capital of the Islamic Empire. After a very violent & conflict ridden history during which time Portuguese, Spanish and French communities all lived in Morocco, it finally achieved freedom and in 1956 Morocco became independent, after which Marrakech stopped being the central city and Rabat became the capital. Nowadays Marrakech's income is mainly from tourism and agriculture (exporting mostly to Western countries). It is also a centre of transportation of minerals extracted from the Atlas mountains. Marrakech is also known as the 'Red City' due to the distinct colour of it's many buildings, especially prevalent in the medina. These days Marrakech has the enviable title of being the most international city of Morocco.
