About the neighbourhood
Famous for its impressive 1800’s bridge, Kerne Bridge, is a small rural hamlet, scattered between the banks of the River Wye and Howle Hill and lies between the small market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. Close by is the pretty village of Goodrich with its 12th century Marcher Castle, village shop and two pubs both serving good food. Just a short distance away is Symonds Yat, a pretty Herefordshire village, which straddles the River Wye, home to the magnificent natural limestone rock popular with wildlife enthusiasts and climbers, as well as a Butterfly Farm and Maze. The Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and boasts many outdoor activities, including horseback riding, walking, fishing and abseiling.
How to get there
Kerne Bridge is easy to find & 1.5 miles off the A40 (3 miles from Ross-on-Wye & 8 miles from Monmouth)From the A40, take the exit for Goodrich marked with a brown heritage sign for Goodrich Castle. Follow the country lane & pass the Hostelrie Hotel on the left. Just after passing the Goodrich School on the right, turn left at the T Junction onto the B4229. Follow the road and go over Kerne Bridge and at the T junction turn right onto the B4234. Take the second road on the left which is unmarked. (If you go past the bus stop on the right, you have missed the turning but you can turn around by using the Bishopwood Village hall carpark immediately on the right). Once on the unmarked road take the second drive on the left marked ‘The Kernel’ & ‘Kerne House’. The Kernel can be found on the left.
