Cottage
Casa da Colina is a comfortable, cosy cottage which lies in quiet, peaceful countryside with stunning views. There is a comfortable double bedroom upstairs with a Queen bed and a sofa. Downstairs houses a double sofa bed and chair in the living area. A completely up-to-date kitchen leads out to a patio area with its barbecue and furniture. The living area is complete with TV & dvd player, plus games and books to lose yourself in. There is a parking area at the front of the house. Linen and towels are supplied as well as a small welcome pack. The surroundings are rural and very peaceful; you can watch the local neighbours walk their sheep to the fields as they pass by the front of the cottage. For those wishing to get to know the locals, there are plenty of Festas (festivals) during the months of June, July and August. There is an excellent restaurant 2 minutes’ drive (20 min walk) away and a local bar/café 200 metres away. Walking and bicycle riding is common; one of the walking trails which links up to the numerous hiking routes is situated 350m from the cottage. The town of Ansiao, which is five minutes away, has all the amenities you could wish for, including a swimming pool, supermarket, health centre plus many bars, cafes and small shops Locally there are many historic sites including the world famous Roman town of Conimbriga which is situated just south of Coimbra and only a short drive away from us. The Templars town of Tomar (40 min drive) is without doubt a beautiful place to visit. For those wanting to travel further afield, the city of Lisbon is approximately two hours’ drive and Porto one and three quarter hours away. A common feature of this part of Portugal is the river beach, and we have two within half an hours’ drive, the river beach is the Portuguese way of visiting the seaside without travelling too far!! It is simply a widened, dammed river with added sand, usually accompanied by a cafe and a bar. If your interest is in wildlife, there are many Birds Of Prey which are common in the area. The owners live next door and will be on hand to give any advice. Guests can have friends over but, there is limited parking to only one car. Any noise must be reduced to a minimum after 11pm. Interaction with guests: We live next door to the premises and are around much of the time, we try to keep ourselves available but allow guests their privacy. About the neighbourhood
Quiet farming area with little, to no, road noise. There are numerous walking and cycling routes close by, including the Fatima and Santiago de Compostela routes. The Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route ends at the town of Santiago de Compostela in the Spanish province of Galicia, believed to be the resting place of St James the Apostle. This has been a trail for pilgrims since medieval times and it has no real starting point.
Getting around
There is a local bus which travels into Ansiao; however, it is a limited schedule. There are also 2 local taxi operators in the area.
