A lovely traditional Charentaise house ('The Old Bakery') in Burie, 5 minutes walk to shops, 15 minutes drive to Cognac with its restaurants and distillery tours, 20 minutes drive to the Roman town of Saintes, and 45 minutes drive to the large sandy beaches of the West coast such as Royan. It is one hour from La Rochelle (airport) and 30 minutes from Angouleme (TGV high speed train) The house is newly-refurbished, very spacious, with comfortable brand new beds and mattresses, and with a large tranquil garden. We had a lovely time in Karl & Imtaz's beautiful country hideaway. The house was lovely and warm, well equipped and oozed charm. We enjoyed the real fire every evening and the lovely local walks and villages.

About the neighbourhood
Burie is the capital of Pineau which, along with Cognac, is the main produce from the vineyards surrounding the town. The region has a large number of Cognac distilleries and museums and charming towns and villages with white stone houses. Burie is also in the Charente-Maritime, which has the most sunlight in France outside of the South, famous for its long sandy beaches such as Royan and its charming islands ile de Re, ile d'Aix and ile d'Oleron. La Rochelle, the capital of the region, is a historic port town full of bustling restaurants, bars, and cafes.
